FWIW the best pho I've ever had is at Mopho in NOLA. I'm pretty sure the cook who started it is white. It's not exactly traditional pho though and it doesn't pretend to be.

Bellaire Blvd Asian > all of New Orleans Asian

Just one more reason htown is better

But yeah I agree mopho is good and I don't really care who is making it as long it takes good. Rick Bayless' cook books are a good example of this.

Mixing cultures and cusines is one of the reasons America so great. You don't get southern food and even more so Cajun food without the mix of several different cultures.

Too bad my generation pines for segregation and safe spaces.

It's not like we get mad when other folks try to cook gumbo and frick it up. We're not screaming about appropriation of Cajun culture.

Why do people think this is "black food"

It's southern food

Because when black people left the south during the Great Migration they brought that cuisine with them wherever they landed. The people (mostly white) in the north/west weren't used to it so they considered it "black people food".

We have culturally reached a point where life is so easy for many that they feel it necessary to manufacture strife where none exists.

Nobody is offended by this except for a handful of people on the internet. It's a non story that Buzz feed successfully turned into click bait so that idiots could talk about how thin skinned other idiots are. Hopefully this narrative is finally getting played out.

There are four kinds of Vietnamese dishes:
1. Those made by Vietnamese
2. Those made by non-Viet Asians
3. Those made by any other race
4. Anything served for Buffet style

1 is good, 3 is good but not traditional. 4 is bad, but what were you expecting anyway?

2? 2 is downright dreadful

Sad part is you can substitute any other Asian nation in place of Vietnamese and the same holds true.
