I like to pull open the fried bread, plop on oyster in the cavity, and top it with some cocktail sauce. Not a bad way to end a day and begin a meal.

I'm sure that works very well. I was surprised I liked it as much as I did because I'm not a fan of those fried pistolettes that became a fad some years ago. I was expecting something like that.

The bread comes out so hot and that soft butter goes on it so well.....

Sorry here are some more details about last night.

Tuna Crudo: served with crispy rice, pickled cabbage, chiles and aioli. Tuna was really fresh. Flavors worked well together. Nice acidity. Probably my favorite dish of the night.

Smoked Drun Crudo: Served with eggplant, basil, tomatoes and croutons. Drum was firm and a little chewy with good smoky flavor. Basil added a nice herby note and worked well. Ate a little more like a fish salad than a crudo but flavor was good. This was probably my least favorite dish of the night.

Fried Bread: 6 came to an order. Served piping hot out of the oil topped with sea salt. Texturally was a little denser than a beignet on the inside but was crunchier on the outside with a thicker crust. Seemed to be popular as the majority of tables had these. Nice way to start the meal.

Crab and Jalapeño Capellini: housemade pasta with a sauce of butter and crab fat topped with crab meat. Also had jalapeños, garlic, and green onion which added a little heat. Surprisingly large portion and plenty of crab meat. Great dish and was surprisingly light considering the ingredients. Probably my second favorite dish of the night.

Fish Sticks: 4 beer battered fried "fish sticks" using LA31. Fish was fried perfectly and crispy on the inside while remaining flaky on the inside. 4 came to an order served with housemade tartar sauce and lemon. Definitely worth a try and was a welcomed crunch to our meal besides the bread.

Brussel Sprouts with Chili Vinegar: Fried to the brink of being bitter but just perfect. Sauce was acidic, spicy, and slightly sweet. Probably one of the best brussel sprout dishes I've ever had at a restaurant.

Next time we will get the whole fish but wanted to try a number of smaller dishes this time.

Nice, usually these threads have one post by the OP, then 25 posts by people saying what they got when they went to said restaurant...and the OP is never to be heard from again. Good work.

Thanks for the great review. Some friends were there recently and commented on a few seasonal crab dishes being offered. Glad your visit was successful. I find the small plates to be pretty generous.

That is a great dish that seems to never get mentioned in these threads.

Depends on the nature of the allergy. Fish allergy? Shellfish allergy?

Chicken
Steak
Lamb
Hushpuppies
Fried Bread
Brussel sprouts
Brabant potatoes
White beans or the other bean dish they serve
Salad
Roasted beets

I know some folks who are allergic to white fish, but not to tuna or salmon, for example.

I think the seasonal shell fish dishes are good. Right now, I think they have the crabmeat with jalapeno capellini. I've had it with the crawfish during crawfish season. I love the spicy ground shrimp and the shrimp toast, though I wish the shrimp toast came with some sort of Asian sauce for dipping.
