Hello. I made my 2nd trip to New Orleans a month ago.
My 1st was last April. I'm going again in September. Here's where I ate this time and some pictures I took. I stayed at the Astor Crowne Plaza. I met a friend there that was staying at the Hotel Provincial. She lived in NOLA for awhile and got washed out by Katrina & is back in Milwaukee but goes back down 3 times a year or so. I had a great time even though it rained a lot.
5-29
I met my friend at Lucky's Bar on St Charles and we walked to Cafe Reconcile for lunch.
I had the smothered chicken, with potato salad. My friend had the blackened catfish. It was good, not great. A good start to the trip though. Very cool concept for a restaurant.
For dinner we went to Herbsaint. We met my friend's sister and her friend who were down there for a nursing convention. We started at a table outside but it started raining in the middle of the meal and we had to come inside.
I had the pork belly, which is one of the best things I've ever eaten.
Sazerac
Chicken & andouille gumbo
Short ribs
Shrimp & rice
Shrimp & grits with collard greens
Baked asiago with lemon & oregano
Raw porcini mushrooms with olive oil & sea salt
I'm not big on dessert but this chocolate pudding cake with caramel and cashew ice cream, and caramel corn with cocoa nibs was fantastic.
5-30
Breakfast at Stanley
Eggs Stanley, another highlight of the trip. Perfect fried oysters.
For lunch we went to Dooky Chase's and had the buffet.
Fried chicken and catfish among the best I've ever eaten.
Peach cobbler
Dinner was at The Irish Pub. It was OK. I met some friends who just bought a house in the neighborhood near Jacque Imo's. It was nice to see them.
Gulf fish
Garden District Salad
Crab Cake Lyonnaise
Classic Beer Battered Fish & Chips
Afterwards we went to the Avenue Pub. I was blown away by the beer selection.
5-31
Ate at The Grill (French Quarter) for breakfast.
Chef's Special Omelette. Tasty. And filling, to say the least.
Classic Southern Breakfast
Bourbon House for lunch. Which is in the hotel I stayed at. Fantastic meal all around. One of the highlights of the trip.
Shrimp Deviled Eggs
Catfish Pecan. Awesome.
Oysters
Frozen Bourbon Milk Punch
Dinner was pop-up BBQ by Black Label BBQ at Lucky's
Crack Poppers (Jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese, and wrapped in bacon, rolled in brown sugar & smoked). Awesome.
Cowboy From Hell
6-1
Breakfest at Cafe Fleur De Lis
Seafood Benedict. Nothing to write home about.
Crescent City Brewhouse
Oysters
Shrimp & Grits
Then we stopped at the Oyster Festival for awhile between rain showers.
Drago's charbroiled oysters
Praline bacon from Elizabeth's. Which is actually the only thing I ate this time that I ate on my last trip.
We ate at Galvez for dinner. Which was really really good. The paella was incredible. But I was sweating a lot because I'm a fat mess. And I was so full. I'd like to go again when I can enjoy myself more.
Manchego Bombas
Roasted Beet Salad
Roasted Mixed Olives
Paella De Mariscos
BBQ Shrimp Galvez
Bread Pudding Galvez. Excellent.

Drago's oysters were good and yeah it was a lot of fun. Besides eating and drinking I went to the WWII Museum which was outstanding. Staying at Hotel Le Marais in September. Looks like a nice place.

Great food pics . Which places do you plan on trying in September? I'd suggest some places Uptown but it would require some form of transportation to get there.

Thanks.
Off the top of my head I'd like to get to Jacque Imo's & Willie Mae's Scotch House. There's a BBQ place I forget the name of that a friend of mine suggested also. Other than that it's pretty wide open. Uptown's not a problem either. My group is pretty mobile.

When the guy set them down in front of me my friend pointed at them and said "hey, you know..." and I said "yep, atomic camel turds!"

Went to Jacque Imo's Saturday for the first time in years. It was pretty good, but about what I expected. Food is better then average but prices are way too high. They are selling atmosphere.
Nice trip report. Sounds like a good time.

Always wanted to try them when they were at Ms Mae's. Not sure if Luckys is an upgrade or not.

Thanks all.
The people that I'm going with in September love the chicken at Jacque Imo's so that's what I'm most interested in trying.
Spent a lot of time there. Had a good time. Interesting bunch of characters. It's my friend's home base when she goes down there.

Thanks, can't wait to go back.

Keep eating what you're eating. Brewers box to wire in first place 6.5 up over the dirty birds!
An afternoon visit to Peche and Cochon Butcher should be in your rotation come September.

You should try Peche, Boucherie, Ancora, Domenica, Pizza Domenica, High Hat, Cowbell, Katie's, Company Burger, Mariza, Sylvain, Clancy's, or Gautreau's next time you're in town.

Thanks
Still cautiously optimistic about the Brewers. It'd be nice to see a World Series in my lifetime.
I went to Cochon Butcher last year and loved it. Would like to go again and also try Peche.
