My wife is going to a work function where everyone is being an appetizer. I’m typically the best cook and need to show off. Someone give me some ideas.

Here is what is currently being made

Caprese salad
Sausage blossoms
Bruschetta dip
7 layer dip
Goat cheese and honey

I once made a huge muffaletta sandwich and cut it into appetizer sized pieces. Big hit!

Go to Whole Foods, Fresh Market, or an Italian grocer. Build a charcuterie. Meats, stinky cheeses, stuffed olive, and so on.

Blue cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped dates. Always killer. If not blue cheese then Marcona almonds

This is actually a great idea.

My go to is belly cut into about 1” cubes, serve with Hawaiian rolls and a strawberry pepper jam

This is a work function. Do not do "sticky." Go to Sam's, buy a meats sampler (salami, etc.) Buy a block of Manchego or Irish Cheddar, slice it into thin planks. Put on a disposable platter with the seasoned olive blend that is also available at Sam's. Buy 200 toothpicks.

Pillbury crescent roll

Layers it out flat. Put Brie in the middle. Put a layer of prosciutto on top, followed by blackberry preserves or dig preserves. Cover it with another layer of crescent roll dough.

Thank me later.

Did these recently and they were a big hit. Could cut in half if you need more portions I suppose.

Go to Sam's or Walmart, or Kroger, etc. and buy a bag of those frozen meatballs. Make an alfredo sauce, red sauce, or whatever gravy you like and serve with toothpicks.

How many people/servings do you need? Pasta salad is always a hit. I made some for the 4th with English cucumbers, tomato, onion and feta cheese, and black olives. Might be too close to caprese, but you can make it creamy instead of Italian dressing.

You got more suggestions on where to go than what to bring.

A true charcuterie will only have meats. Charcuterie is French for “cooked flesh”

Go to the sticky above and click on the F&D Recipe Collection. Lots of good stuff in there.

Under appetizers, look at crabmeat or shrimp layered dip. Always a hit and goes fast. You could use crawfish as well.

Under crawfish, look at crawfish cardinale. Serve warm in a chafing dish or small crockpot. People gather around it. You can also serve it in phyllo cups from the freezer section of your store. However, crisp those up a bit in the oven. They are a bit doughy, but crisping them works great.

Look up Darla's Shrimp Mold in the cookbook under Shrimp. Old fashioned recipe that people love when it's revived.

For cocktail parties, we put shrimp and grits in martini glasses for folks to pick up or we pass them

Toss cooked shrimp in a good remoulade sauce served on a bed of lettuce with toothpicks.

People love deviled eggs. Make a variety of the standard deviled eggs and some with varying ingredients. There are plenty of recipes online for different versions.

You could cook shelled shrimp in a bbq based sauce like Emeril's recipe, for example. Take one shrimp and put it in one of the warmed phyllo cups, which would be a little like eating the bbq shrimp with French bread or serve a shrimp on sliced toasted french bread rounds.
