Nastiest Supermarket Produce Section

A lot of stores have really nice produce, WF, Fresh Market, Calandro's, etc.. However, yesterday I paid my 1st visit to the new Walmart Neighborhood Market on Coursey. How could a store, barely open 2 weeks, have produce that looked a month old? I couldn't find a decent bunch of parsley, one prepacked bunch of green onions, no fresh mushrooms. It looks like overuse of those damn produce sprayers turned everything into a soggy mess.
It's nice when they put fresh asparagus in ice or in a pan of water, they did, tip side down instead of stem side down, genius.
I should have known better then to waste my time in a Walmart.

Well, to be fair, it's not like Walmart has been around long enough for you to know such things.

It's trashy to make groceries at Walmart

I don't buy produce from Wal-Mart....Southside produce on PERKINS is good

Tigertown, where do you do most of your grocery shopping in Savannah?

My local Winn Dixie is worse than WalMart...the stuff at WalMart turns over faster. WD's stuff is terribly presented and often wilted, about to expire, or close to spoiling.

On the flip side.. Leblanc's Frais Marche's produce section is awesome.

I go 4-5 times per week and usually Publix either on Skidaway by my office or Wilmington.
I prefer the giganto Kroger, but it is a pain to go to.
The Food Lion on Skidaway Road near Isle of Hope is actually pretty decent.

I agree, but I bet I have not been to WM 10x in as many years. Just hoping a new store maybe be better, nope.
Yes, Leblanc is very good.

I did not know there was a Publix on Skidaway. There is a new place called Lucky's Market opening on Abercorn next to Krystal next month. Kind of like a Trader Joes. $2 craft pints everyday that you can drink while you shop.

In theory, the WM Neighborhood Market is supposed to be at least slightly more upscale, and you'd think they'd have better QC on their produce.
We have a Lucky's here in town (think Trader Joe's but more of a full grocer) and their claim to fame is dirt cheap high quality produce, which is pretty fortunate. Plus $2 craft beers on tap...

I go to Whole Foods, Southside and the farmers market on Sat mornings.
Most fruit stands get seconds which is why they are cheaper. Not necessarily bad but not the pretty ones. Like anything else you have to look and pick and choose wisely. I love to see someone just grabbing tomatos or whatever without looking and going. Pretty funny. I damn near molest a cantaloupe, tomato or avocado before I buy it.

You should post your shopping schedule so everyone can get in before you. I dont want to see you putting back tomatos after finger blasting them.

This is typically my first and foremost requirement when it comes to which establishment I'm gonna frequent for my produce. I want that stuff to be flying out of there. If it's not popular and stuff is just sitting there, that's not where I'm going.

Whole Foods produce is awful.

My company has done some subcontracted work for WMNMs. I've noticed that they received a lot of inventory ahead of time. Could be that they received their produce earlier than they should or perhaps the electrician flubbed up and left the coolers without power for a while.
I agree it's probably not going to be the best produce around, but I wouldn't stop going there because of one bad experience early on. Especially if I just needed one or two simple items...

Three Sundays in a row at the old Coursey location, they didn't have any celery in the store. How can a Louisiana grocery not carry celery? They're basically sucking the income from decent nearby groceries. It drove me nuts to go from that Walmart to Winn-Dixie to Albertson's just so I could amass what I needed for a particular dish.
