Agreed. I would argue it’s worth going to once, especially if you want authentic food and unique experience, but I don’t need to go back again.

If they don't understand New Orleans isn't a cajum destination, then they probably wouldn't know if you just lied and said any random restaurant was cajun.

Broussard/Lafayette (that area) is as Cajun as they come and will outcook anyone in Louisiana!

Like a good gumbo, jambalaya, red beans, ettouffee? Because they have those in NOLA. Just not a pure Cajun restaurant.

Toups might be a good choice.

(I know, I know.)

Is there anything close?

Toups has a few items but isn’t really Cajun. Atchafalaya is comme ci comme ca. Trenasse puts beef broth in its boudin balls.

You got anything else?

You can get rice, beans and fried shite anywhere man.

I know. My guest don’t.

I don't know of a restaurant where you can get what you describe in your original post. You can certainly take them to a number of places with gumbo if that will serve the purpose, but otherwise, you should tell them that New Orleans doesn't have pure Cajun restaurants, but there's plenty of good food native to New Orleans and Louisiana. Otherwise, just lie and tell them they are eating Cajun food.

ETA: You could try Royal House which serves gumbo, jambalaya and etouffee. I haven't had any of those dishes there, so I can't vouch for the food. I've had the chargrilled oysters which are good.

I’d just bring them to Cafe Degas.

yup. i'd just bring them to gabrielle, toups, cochon, r'evolution, or any of the thousands of other "louisiana" restaurants that the average person would confuse for cajun.

Gabrielle is very good. It's not a plate lunch in Broussard, but the guests probably won't know the difference anyway.

Just go to Cochon.

You’ll have a better meal than any of the other crap and they won’t know the difference.

Cochon is great.

It’s closed now , but Bon Temps was excellent.

It was called the Bon Ton. And sadly it did close as the owner had health issues. The only thing that worked out well was the timing - it closed about a month before Covid shut everything down.
