In Rome, look for something in Trastevere. Mostly small properties but it's a great location. We stayed in the San Franceso last year and it was great for the money. Probably less than $150/night. ...

If you are a Costco member try one of the Kirkland Signature cabs. I've had a few that were decent and were less than $20. One of my favorites that's cheap is Wines of Substance "CS". Washington State wine. ...
