Who said the market is already oversaturated?

LINK

Pho Cam Ly at 3816 Magazine, think that's right by Magasin.

Too bad it's not a pho/gourmet burger combo joint.

its getting to be a bit much. some of these places will have to start doing more to differentiate themselves or i think several will close quick

Agreed--it's approaching saturation.

I stop at Pho Bang in NOLA East on the way in...I doubt any place can touch what they sling out of that kitchen.

went tonight. I'd give it 3.5/5 overall but unfortunately for them we still pick magasin and Lilly's over pho cam ly.

They did a great job with decorations. Place feels very cozy. Tables are spread out nicely. Fiancée disagreed said it kinda felt like a cafeteria.

Veggie Spring rolls were meh. No carrots to give it that crunch. Too many noodles. Peanut sauce was good.

I had the pho shrimp. It was just okay. It was missing something. Noodles tasted bland. Shrimp was not flavored at all.

Fiancée had a veggie rice meal which we both thought was excellent. Veggies cooked perfect and came with a really really good soup. Tasted like onion soup but was unique compared to other Vietnamese spots.

In the end , we will definitely give it another shot but not before we eat at magasin and Lilly's a few times in between.

Some of the pho places have already closed - the one next to Igor's (albeit it's been replaced by Pho Orchid ) and then one out in Kenner I can't remember the name of. More will certainly come.

I've heard negative things about the place and those dishes don't look good. I'm literally gonna have to Rohan on myself to not eat there though.

Was it crowded ? Edit JM?

They had 5 other tables when we arrived. Then no tables when we left.

That's not the best looking I've seen. Think I'll stick with Lilly's.

Guess you didn't bother to check the OP.

It's dated 1/23/14. This thread was bumped, bro.

Broth looks bland as all hell on that pho.

FYI. Tried Mint on Freret Sunday and was not impressed at all. Service was awful, and food was meh. I'll pass going forward.

Totally agree. I find myself comparing magasin and Lilly's all the time over the same dishes. Def need some creativity to give an edge and individuality. I've had a month long obsession with what has become my usual take out from magasin: deli special bahn mi and an order of fried pork rolls with lettuce wraps. To make it multi cultural, I eat it with some Zapps.

Love me some Lilly's too. I like their pho over magasin. And Lilly is the sweetest lady. Always greets you with a smile.

I've developed a hate for Magasin. The meat to bread ratio is way off with the Banh Mi that I refuse to order it. You could make two Magasin pork Banh Mi with the meat from one Kim Ahn's sandwich.

I agree about the banh mi. Ordered one for lunch Monday and thought it was weak. But my go-to is the vegan curry or the filet mignon special. I could drink that curry it tastes so good.

Their shitty portion sizes is what has kept me from going back. From the pho to the bun to the banh mi.. they just don't give you very much meat. Plenty of rice and/or noodles though!
