Me thinks you may not be as big a beer genius as your handle says you are.

Here is an update from last night:

In the make your own 6 pack i got Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan, Bass Pale Ale, Anchor Porter,Sierra Nevada Stout, and the Sierra Nevada Hefeweizen.

I got a late start in cracking one open last night. so i only drank 2, the Sierra Nevada Hefeweizen, and the Anchor Porter.

The hefeweizen was good, not great. I think i would get it again.

The Anchor Porter, was really good, I will definitely be getting more of that!

I really like porters and stouts, what would yall recommend in those?

There are some really nice stouts around the country.

Prairie Bomb seems to be the most popular around here and you can occassionally find it on tap at a Louisiana bar. Here are 3 good starters for you to try:

NOLA Irish channel stout
Southern Tier Chokolate
Abita Turbodog

Tin Roof coffee porter
Stone smoked porter
Founders porter

Stouts
Nola Irish Channel Stout
Sante Fe Imperial Java Stout

Did they stop making parade ground? I can't find it anywhere.

I've only seen this at Calandros and I want to try it, I just know it will take me a while to go through 6 of them so I haven't had it yet. Heard good things though. Did BR just get this recently?

Finally had this last week at the Bulldog and it was great. I typically stick to lighter beers but I have seemed to enjoy the last few stouts and porters I've tried. I may look into finding some more of those to try.

Up vote

I've been trying to find other beers like it, but I've come up empty. I heard Sam Adams and Harpoon make a white IPA as well. Anybody know where I can get more like this?

I purchased these sixers at Spec's in Beaumont recently. My favorite new beers of 2014 are:

1. Full Sail ESB-not bitter as name would imply
2. Widmer Brothers HEFE-American Wheat- Gold winner of the 2014 World Beer Championship (style)

Depends what you like in your white IPAs

If you are looking for a White IPA that is lightly spiced and low to no belgian yeast character try...

Deschutes Chainbreaker IPA
Harpoon The Long Thaw
Sierra Nevada Snow Wit White IPA
New Belgium Accumulation

If you want more Belgian yeast character try...
Stone Cali-Belgique
Epic Brainless IPA
Green Flash Le Freak
Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Wild

So last night I finished the make your own 6 pack, and here are the results:

St. Arnold Stout was rather good, I think I still like the Anchor Porter better though

I was very disappointed with Becks Sapphire, there wasn't much flavor at all.

I was not a fan of Magic Hat #9, there was a weird after taste that did not sit well with me.

I ended my night on a good note with Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan, highly pleased with this beer.

Keep the suggestions coming!

I think it is a seasonal beer. I can still find some in New Orleans at a few places. Not sure about anywhere else though.

St Arnolds Stout is a milk/sweet stout... I think there are a few of those available locally, but none are excellent.

I think Baton Rouge gets Mackeson Triple XXX Stout, it's a good example of the style. If you want a desert type beer Young's Double Chocolate Stout is a good too.

Magic Hat uses extract for the fruit flavor in #9. I think it gives the beer a fake cough syrup after taste. Same goes for Terrapin's Farmhouse Peach.
