I will definitely be going to one of these!

My wife is allergic to shellfish, so while I would love to go, we have to pass on the crab.

For breakfast we like Grand Lux(Chicken and Waffles) and the Peppermill Café.

Yard Bird has a drink call Blackberry Lemonade which we get a couple of every time we go.

That drink sounds fantastic. I'll probably have one of those every day!

One last place is I Love Burgers at the Venetian/Palazzo. I like it for breakfast and I get the Eggs over a hamburger patty.

I recommended Valentino's but I don't see it listed anymore. This may be the one that is now called Buddy V's.

The Detroit boys at The D brought in Joe Vicari's Andiamo Italian Steakhouse.

Ate there this past Saturday night. Was pretty good probably comparable to a middle of the road steak house on the strip. CUT at The Venetian is still my favorite. I usually like gambling at The D as well but it does get loud in the downstairs casino.

For buffet's, Wicked Spoon at The Cosmopolitan is top notch.

I hit up Carbone at The Aria as well, the veal parm was on point as is the lobster ravioli if not a little small. I would recommend going family style there as the veal was a large portion.

I'd say it's more than middle of the road, but you're point is well taken. Most places in Las Vegas, or anywhere for that matter, are never going to compete with Carnevino's 240 day aged steaks. That's a pretty high bar. I get comped at the D, so that probably made my review biased.

I don't like gambling there, they screwed up my marker line when they had me out there.

What I do is stay on the strip, and eat almost exclusively at Oscar's, Hugo's Cellar, Circus, Circus Steakhouse, Top of Binions and Golden Steer. But frankly, 45 Steaks and Martini's at the Hard Rock is really, really good as well, and it doesn't get much attention. Pricey as compared to some others I mentioned.

Interesting conversation. I love talking about it as I haven't been there since Super Bowl weekend. I need to make it back before it gets too hot.

4 pages and I'm shocked nobody has mentioned the oyster bar in palace station. It's probably the #1 hidden gem in all of las vegas.

Peppermill is great for breakfast.

Vegas is home to the greatest collection of steakhouses in the world. For the most part you can't go wrong no matter where you go. Prime in bellagio was amazing and probably the best place for a romantic evening, Del Frisco has the best food (imo) but its off the strip and the decor is blah. Strip steak, gordon ramsay and N9ne have great food and a more hip/fun ambience, so its a good place to go with a big group of friends. Mastros is great also and a clear step above other chains like mortons and ruth chris. Craftsteak is the only place that really let me down for some reason, my steak and the ambience were bland; maybe it was just an off night. Ive heard great things about Cut and Carnevino and intend to try them both soon.

Emerils stadium is probably the best place to watch a game, but its really hard to get reservations during peak times.

Holsteins has great burgers, their creme brûlée malt is probably the best shake I've ever had.

the pizza spot at aria (think its called 550 pizza) is the best in vegas.

don't waste your time at buffets.

I've never been to that thai place but i've heard from a few people its the best they've tried.

From my perspective, there is really no decent authentic Italian food in LV. If you like Northern Italian, then Batista's, but really not even then.

Piero's?

Secret pizza at the Cosmo is the best pizza on the strip at least. No signs or anything just go down the little hallway across from STK on the third floor.

People are giving out lots of fancy ideas but if you'd like to stay casual one night when you're really hungry hit up Hash House a Go Go at the Linq. If you'll have a rental car I can give you other local spots that aren't on the strip.

Sammy's LA Pastrami has 2 locations off strip and their Pastrami Burger is often mentioned in the top 10 in the country. Rollin Smoke BBQ by Spearmint Rhino has the Outlaw burger which I think is the best burger in Vegas. It's about a foot tall, they use ground briscuit, and it's amazing.

I can't speak to Piero's as I've never been there.

I'm generally pretty hard on Italian restaurants as I've been to Sicily times, and I make my own at home from the ground up, including the sausage. I find most places that serve Italian, serve a highly Americanized version, and it is confusing to me, as a lot of places are owned by Italians.

Italian food might be the most difficult food to give someone a recommendation on. More so than any other regional food, it is very subject to personal preferences, and Italy and Sicily have probably 20-30 different geographic variations of what we call (generally) Italian.

I think the hidden cosmo place is the second best in vegas. it's thin, new york style, whereas the aria spot is more unique (they use 5 different cheeses and load it on, creating a greasy gooey mess). one or 2 slices at the aria place is enough for a meal and it will bog u down. the cosmo pizza isn't nearly as heavy. both are great, just a personal preference thing.

funny story about the cosmo place, the first time i tried it i couldn't find the location, asked a security guard where it was, and he wouldn't tell me. i got irritated thinking the dude was trying to frick with me, but in reality the place is nameless and considered a secret.

Go to any of the main bars in the Cosmopolitan and order a Verbena cocktail. It was a a cool, unique experience (and it isn't even listed on the menu)

They typically only offer it at Chandelier Bar and normally only on Level 1.5. You can get it in the Talon Room (the higher high limit room upstairs) if they have the ingredients at the bar and the bartenders knows the recipe.

Have you met Derek? I think it's cool that the owner of a casino is a man of the people in a way. I don't put in much time at The D other than maybe an hour of craps and a little bit of video poker so I only get $5 food comps. Perhaps I sold Andiamo's short. I guess it's cause I got a filet when I really wanted a rib eye. I'm comped at Downtown Grand, I kind of like having the casino to myself basically, haha. I should commit a day to The D and get on their radar.

Also to the OP, if you want some casual thai, there's Le Thai in downtown and if you have comps at The D you can use them there. Lotus of Siam is supposed to be legit too but it's kind of away from everything so you'll need a cab.

I've met Derek numerous times. Met his brother once. Met Wynn Oscar Goodman and Ruffin as well. Get a hot towel straight blade shave every morning from Ernesto. Know the shoe shine guys.

The issue for me though is that I gamble very, very little any more. So mostly my m.o, is get comped rooms, play a the place that comps me, and very, very occasionally get food comped.

I was never a huge gambler, but I was a large enough one that for a period of years all I ever paid for was an airline ticket. Now it's down to airline ticket and food. For bigger boxing events I'd have to pay though.

Back to topic, I'm not sure the D is world class, but it's not a dump.

If someone asked me one place that tehy should take their wives, I'd say without hesitation, Hugo's Cellar, and I'd predict most would return.

Look, you can spend a lifetime in LV finding great restaurants, but he old Vegas experience at Hugo's is unmatched in that town. Obviously Carevino's 240 day aged steak isn't going to be matched, but the presentation and service at Hugo's is unmatched anywhere.

But it's personal preference. I love that level of service, love the fact thy know me by name.

There is only so much you can do to renovate/remodel a building built to different standards. The elevator shafts, load bearing columns and mechanical systems were not designed to support a modern world class hotel. Another problem is that it is tough to get rid of the old and musty smell unless you completely gut the building.

That being said, how much time do you really want to spend in a hotel room when you are in Las Vegas? As long as I have a comfortable bed, adequate bathroom and up to date media I'm good to go. And the D has all those.

That's been me at the Cosmo for the last couple of years. Nice place that would send me a few nights free in an offer. Last week I spent a couple of hours in the MGM Mansion dining room, that's a whole different level.

The D's rooms are fine so long as you get the ones away from the noise on Fremont St. I was talking more about their steak house, but was in a hurry and didn't make myself very clear.

To the other gentleman who is going to try Hugo's. Get their Kona coffee after dinner. They make it in a neat looking contraption at your table. If you go, let me know if I steered you wrong
