re: Official Erin Energy (ERN) thread - Iowa Golfer
Not a lot of volume for short covering. But again, a huge short interest. So I'm not sure, but that certainly could be part of it. I would think you wouldn't want to hold a short into the release of earnings. Especially since the expectations are for about .06-.10. I I'm not sure how much, if...

re: Is it time to buy gold? - Iowa Golfer
I get that. BRK certainly does own stock in companies that have gold as a main part their model. He also purchased a lot of silver on behalf of his shareholders. His comments about the utility of gold, and more so how he emphasizes his benefit to society are revealing. He is hugely liberal in so...

re: Is it time to buy gold? - Iowa Golfer
No humor. Well, a smidge of humor. To obtain a gain in BRK, one must sell the asset as no dividends are paid. To obtain a gain in gold, one must sell the asset as the gold produces nothing for the owner. If you wish, you can create a chart comparing the price of BRK to Gold on a historical ba...

re: Is it time to buy gold? - Iowa Golfer
Because Mr. Buffet's shares of his company sit there and pay a dividend? Or because they sit there, and either appreciate in value, or depreciate in value? Much like gold sitting in a safe? Because Mr. Buffet has never purchased precious metals? Like he told his shareholders? Or because he late...

re: Time to buy some XOM(Oil stock discussions)? - Iowa Golfer
what is pickens philosophy on rig counts? not sure I've seen it
To boil it down, US rigs down to at least 1400, from their high of 2K. Also, premium to brent prices at a levels where high debt upstreams stop producing. This is the critical portion as they need to keep on producing ...

Earnings being leaked? No other reason I can think of for this to move, and as thinly as it is traded, that would do it. ...

re: Time to buy some XOM(Oil stock discussions)? - Iowa Golfer
US rig count I think is currently impacted by the shale producers. And you are correct, they have massive debt, and as long as brent, or oil at a premium to brent is above $55, which it is, they need to keep producing. The more mature companies do not, and overall rig count is going down. So...

re: Is it time to buy gold? - Iowa Golfer
Buy from reputable dealer that agrees to purchase back at no less than spot price. At as low of a premium as can be had. Also one where you can take it home with you that day. Better to get sealed MSC70, and from a mint that's name is recognized so if you need to sell at a later date (and higher pri...

re: Time to buy some XOM(Oil stock discussions)? - Iowa Golfer
"Many in here buy and hold, reinvesting dividends for decades." Absolutely nothing wrong with this. I do this as well, I just don't dollar cost average in to it. I wait and attempt to purchase as close to the bottom as possible. Not being able to predict exactly when, I look for opportunities as ...

re: Time to buy some XOM(Oil stock discussions)? - Iowa Golfer
Sell something high to buy something low. If you already sold something high, you'd have cash to buy something low. Not busting your chops, but this is how I do it. I have cash on the sidelines from profits already taken. You never should second guess yourself by taking profits, especially since thi...

re: Time to buy some XOM(Oil stock discussions)? - Iowa Golfer
Capitulation soon? I'm not entirely sure, but I'm not uncomfortable buying XOM at today's levels. I'm not going to do this though, I am going to try to time my purchase of additional XOM with a target rig count number. And I'm thinking we're getting close. ...

re: Is it time to buy gold? - Iowa Golfer
BRK generates income. It is reflected in increased share price (hopefully). It certainly isn't returned to most of the owners as ordinary income, only as a gain if you liquidate. But I guess it is an investment since it generates income even though shareholders only benefit by liquidating at a h...

re: Official Erin Energy (ERN) thread - Iowa Golfer
Good stuff. Thanks, I appreciate posters who actually put some time in to their investments. Makes common sense. I suspect all the major players will probably wait on their exploration well, and the decline of premium brent hasn't helped ERN in this either. But, but, but, if you're in it to win i...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWksEJQEYVU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZaz7OqyTHQ I think we get hit 8/11. I also think after 8/11 is a good time for those with a long time frame. The possibility exists that they have no lifts Q2. The announcements, and timing for the factoring lead me t...
