I'll be going to Vegas for the first time as an adult ( I went 10 years ago as a freshman in high school) in a few months, so I'm looking for fun spots to drink and great spots to eat. I'll be with my wife, sister, and brother-in-law and we're all in our mid to late twenties. We are staying at The Venetian so we'll probably hit up Delmonico for dinner one night.

You're never more than 100 yards from a great restaurant in Vegas. All the famous chefs have outposts there, some better than others. Bouchon, also in the Venitian, is Thomas Keller's place in Vegas. It's much more casual than his East & West coast restaurants, and much more reasonably priced. It wasn't "memorable" but it was very good.

My favorite restaurant in Vegas is Il Mulino - the Vegas version of the famous New York Italian spot. It's in the Caesar's Forum Shops. Service is hilariously good. The complimentary grappa at the end was just the cherry on top.

Dinner at the HOB Foundation Room in the Mandalay Bay is worth it for the view alone. The steakhouse fare was great but you go for the experience. It's on the 64th floor of the Mandalay Bay and has huge outdoor patios that look down at the Strip. Since Mandalay is at the foot of the strip, it's probably the best view in town. If you don't go for dinner there's also a nightclub attached.

Golden Steer has gone down hill a bit imo, but I agree that an old Vegas experience is in order. Hugo's Cellar. Oscar goodman has a new place, and Nicky is waiting in there. Top of Binions. The Italian American club, but most probably can't get an invite to go there. I'd say Batista's Hole in the Wall, but that is essentially Northern Italian, and the old lady is now gone.

I'm seeing that just from my research online. Just trying to narrow it down some, which is difficult.

I was planning on getting brunch here. The croque madame looks very good online.

Sounds very good, I'll definitely look into it!

I read that this place was fairly exclusive at one point. Is it as easy as making reservations to get in now?

I appreciate the recommendations

Craftsteak @ MGM and order the Chef's Beef Selection, overpriced slightly but you will not disappointed. Some of the best steaks I've ever had.

Joe's Seafood @ Caesars Palace for the stone crab and fish selections.

It's so hard to narrow it down because there are literally hundreds and hundreds of great restaurants there, most of which are insanely priced, especially on the strip. Locals will leave the strip to eat, so my suggestion would be to do some online research as to off strip local eats. It would be well worth the taxi ride. Mix it up with the higher end places on the strip.

My worst meal there recently was the Aria buffet. I went for a quick lunch, meaning I could sit down and start eating, and for the price the food and service absolutely sucked. Yes, I know it's a buffet, but a higher end buffet should be a ton better.

A lot of people don't know that Vegas has a very decent Chinatown with lots of authentic Asian restaurants at reasonable prices. For me it was a bus transfer and a few blocks walk after that, but I found it well worth it. If you like Asian food at all, it's a hidden Mecca.

Yup. The Tom Colicchio restaurant. I've had the Kobe flat iron and the fois gras appetizer there. All good. MGM grand has some really good restaurants.

The Steakhouse at Circus Circus is amazing and the price is reasonable. If you can tolerate the trash at the casino and walk quickl9back to the restaurant you won't be disappointed. Best steak for the price in Vegas hands down.

Yes to this. It's pretty decent. Fairly classic. There are certainly better steakhouses for the price in Las Vegas however.

But this place has very good quality food, and you will not pay uppity strip prices for it.

I'd say in regards to steak, almost everything on the strip is overpriced for what it is outside of Carinivore, and anyplace you can get authenticated Kobe for under 20 per Oz.

It gets a bit smoky in here though.

I'd like to give Giada's place a shot too. I'm definitely looking for some good Italian food.

From my perspective, there is really no decent authentic Italian food in LV. If you like Northern Italian, then Batista's, but really not even then.

I guess it depends what you like, but I'd think you'd be better served not looking for Italian food in LV unless you can get to the IA club.

Bummer. There's no decent Italian in Dallas either so my expectations have been greatly lowered recently

Is there anything I should be looking for outside of steakhouses?

It's personal preference really. I like traditional old Vegas. The way they make the Kona coffee at Hugo's Cellar needs to be experienced by everyone at least once.

The guy that suggested Golden Steer is spot on.

Oscar goodman is the former mayor, Nicky who waits tables at his place waited on Spilotro.

The Rat Pack hung out at Golden Steer.

Now don't get me wrong, the Hard rock has a little known steakhouse that has a bone in filet. Several of the newer in places have butcher's cut, and there is some passable Italian.

But in my opinion, everyone needs to go to the classic places at least once.

I go a lot. I've been to a lot of the restaurants there. All over. I always rent a car. I'm n my 40's, and although Las Vegas is no where near my favorite place, it's good for 8-10 weekend a year.

Here's the rule I use. If I can make it better myself, or get it elsewhere, I refuse to pay for it. Every place I mentioned, I can't do better myself, or get someplace else.

Hugo's can't be replicated. Even when I'm not there for months, they recognize me when I walk in.

You can get Wolfgang Puk elsewhere, and it's not that good.

If you are going to be at the Venetian, make sure to get to Public House for craft beers and great small plates. Also, I have always liked Wolfgang Puck's place @ the MGM. Get the gnocchi w/ vodka cream sauce.
