I like Lil Sumpin and Sucks is really good.
However, I don't find myself buying Lagunitas beers often. I think it's the lack of variety. What I mean is that all of their hoppy beers have the same hop profile and it gets boring to me.

Lagunitas has made a fine business of taking the same IPA recipe and switching the hop varietal and then calling it a new beer. They make a single world class beer in Sucks. No argument from me, it's really good. For someone content to drink IPA's all the time mixed in with a weak body low ABV stout occasionally they do a good job.
They are a top 15 brewery, but that rank is established by volume and not quality. They share that Top 15 with Bud, Miller, Coors and also with Founders/Stone. The latter two manage to throw out a multitude of world class brews while making comparable volumes to Lagunitas.
I don't think they are going anywhere. They are a starter beer for a new craft beer drinker. Easy to access and very affordable. That's their niche and it's working for them.
I think the industry as a whole is seeing a change away from the high ABV brews and IPA's and toward the sour and low ABV side. You've got folks like the Bruery devoting entire new breweries to it, the Alchemist is dabbling with sours and even CCB has been pushing sours into their regular lineup. Those are but a few who have identified the fastest growing segment and are jumping in.

It's nice to see that the Louisiana beer scene has advanced to the point that a brewery like Lagunitas coming to the state is met with a solid "meh"

Seems like folks from louisiana are excited about lagunitas...

Hope we get some Sucks. I'll buy Lil Sumpin Sumpin periodically, it's a great summer beer and will be nice after some yard work. I'll buy the IPA if it's the freshest one on the shelf.

with the exceptions of brown shugga and sucks, i will select Racer 5 or Sculipin over most anything else that Laginutas offers
that being said, i think enjoy little sumthin wild and undercover shutdown are both excellent beers

I agree with your point, but these clowns are devoting an entire new brewery to sours because they can't figure out how to quit cross contaminating their bottling line.
They've had to issue refunds or discounts for at least six beers in the past year because they accidentally contaminated a non-sour beer with bacteria.
ETA: Oh, you can add Firestone Walker to the list of breweries that have opened an entirely new facility to concentrate on sours and barrel aged beers.

Shreveport isnt really apart of louisiana, might as well be arkansas.

To their credit they've handled it well and probably paved the route that other breweries are going to use as they dabble with sours. It's just better to make them a separate entity.

Louisiana is a unique microcosm of the craft beer scene. It defies most logic. I believe theres a reason not many breweries enter the Louisiana market, its because nobody can figure out WTF is going on over there. I certainly cannot.

Right, because no breweries have entered the growing louisiana market at all in the last 5 years.

The problem with Louisiana's beer scene is lack of in state breweries that can distribute to the entire state.
As much as like that Lagunitas coming to this market, 75% of their beers will be shelf turds within 6 months. Stone's year round line up gathers dust on the shelves here and most other breweries beers will do the same.
I'd much rather have a good in state brewery getting that shelf space (Great Raft) than have it taken up by an out of state brewery on the off chance that we get Sucks for three months a year.
