I had a rack of lamb. Best I've ever had.

In all seriousness . . . the truest test of a great restaurant.

They have tried to take it off the menu.. not going to happen. It is perfection.

Ehh, Id say the fact they take your drink order as soon as you sit down and then let you enjoy it for a moment before giving you a menu is a better indicator of Gautreau's importance than its chicken.

I agree. It is close, though.

You get it.

One should not go to Gautreau's and expect a quick meal. It's an experience.

Bodes well for Peche in Best New Restaurant category

Is this the first win for any NOLA restaurant?

I was trying to remember another restaurant that had won a restaurant category at Beard's and couldnt. It wouldnt surprise me if Commander's had won a Best Wine Program.

Pretty bad arse win considering who they were up against.

Think Emeril's may have won Wine Program as well.

I'd actually prefer that you give me the menu, the wine list and a few minutes to look it over before ordering a drink.

That sounds about right re Emeril's. Its a bad arse list.

Also, a few places have won American Classics but I dont think New Orleans has ever won a Best Restaurant or New until now. But email Brett Anderson, he'll know.

Just saw this NOLA article.

Only restaurants opened in calendar year 2013 were eligible in the Best New Restaurant category; Peche is the first-ever New Orleans restaurant to take home the award.

My Uncle had dinner at Herbsaint last night hoping to join in any celebration that might ensue. He said when Peche was announced, Rebecca ran out of the kitchen and started popping champaigne bottles for every table!!

Very cool that Peche took this home. Huge attention grab for the city and its evolving culinary scene.

Anybody know anything about the other Best New noms in NYC? Think about trying one out next month.

Carbone is the retro Italian spot from the folks behind Parm and Torrisi Italian Specialties. They have resurrected the old red sauce joint classics. I went to Parm for a drink and snacks a few years ago and really liked it. Have heard fantastic things about Carbone, its on my short list.

The pictures around the web of Carbone's dishes show massive portion sizes. Guessing it's more conducive to a large group sharing several plates? Either way the food looks pretty killer.

Betony's + Estela's respective menus looks pretty serious. Right in line with my ideal line-up of dishes.
