Id have no problem with pitching in $200 if my hundred is repayed with $200 worth of meat when they open. This really is a donation folks. I certainly dont need a $200 chicken deboning lesson

commercial construction loans are near impossible to get right now
I haven't built anything for individual owners in years, and the last deal I had with financing fell thru after we'd done all the design and we're ready to dig

Apparently they have that done. The address is just down from your old place at Rouzan or in that area. Looks to be part of it. The Kickstarter is for kitchen equipment.
And the only one I would consider is the $150 crate of meat.
My best guess is they are going to lease the building.

that's what I would do
find investors to build to suit then triple net lease the space
the last thing a start up needs to be in is the real estate business
I think I will kick in 150 for the crate

Like every other ambitious restaurant/business in BR, I give it a 90% chance of never opening due to all the red tape the city/parish government imposes.

No joke. It's a marathon to see who can not bleed out and go broke while waiting on them to move forward on ANYTHING these days.

Well, they poured the slab the other day. Talked to Galen last week, and he's hoping to open some time in July. He said it's much easier to build it how you want it than to try to retrofit some place that was something else before.

How is using kickstarter any different from having friends/family help you out? The only difference is that kickstarter more efficiently spreads the word. If you don't like "free" money, you certainly don't have to contribute.
I'd rather give a startup business $5 than give the same $5 to a panhandler, or to a bunch of kids shaking cans for sports uniforms/trips. Isn't it great that we all get to choose where to spend our money?
Aside: when Chris Rose (author) put up a a kickstarter to raise money to fund his lifestyle while writing his next book, I found it kinda distasteful. Writing requires no equipment, startup costs, etc. He just didn't want to work at another job while writing. That is reaching for luxury & privilege on other people's money....not remotely the same as coming up w/startup equipment costs.

asking friends and family is one thing, asking the general public is another. it's called a donation.
i'll contribute buy continuing to buy their products when they open.

I know Galen but that's about the extent of it. I just don't see the problem with using Kickstarter to fund your project. That's what it was created for.

I don't like the Kickstarter. What happened to putting together and business plan and getting a loan? I don't think that it is fair way to raise capitol. Would love to have a quality place in Baton Rouge, but I won't put up money for a business for no return on investment.

Fair? Exactly what is unfair about giving people a chance to contribute to your start up cost, and in return giving them back a little something. It creates a sense of community that can go a long way in a business like this. It's not like anyone is being unfairly forced to give money.

I'm sure he did that and part of his business plan was to raise capital from the general public. If you read the page you receive items in return for your investment. Some to me are better than others but nevertheless you can pick what you want or opt to pass. This is 2016 and how finance is evolving.
