Sadly, most of my meals look like that these days.

My meals should look like that if I want to wear a swimsuit anytime in the near (or even distant) future.

most of meals consist of those things, but they don't look like that

season the chicken breast liberally with salt, pepper and whatever
load it down with fresh of dried herbs
sear in cast iron skillet
roast - sometimes I throw in some fresh peppers with it while it roasts

veggies - roast them with olive oil and seasonings

same thing, but not as sad

I didn't mean it quite so literally. I usually saute' some onions and add salt, pepper and herbs.

The sad part is that it is not boudin, jambalaya, lasagna, enchiladas, coconut cream pie and donuts.

Pot pie. I know some take a lot of time making pot pie, but IMO it was one of these betty crocker marketing schemes.

50's housewife acts all high and mighty acting like she made a fancy dinner. In reality, she dumped three cans of vegetables in a dish with some canned chicken meat, draped some canned whop biscuits over the top, put it in the oven and drank all day. Thanks for trying so hard lady.

Blasphemous...I know...and yes, I'm from SWLA...and yes I had family in the industry...but

Rice is boring. I had so much rice and gravy growing up...that I try to limit how much I cook it now...probably 1 or 2 times a month now.

All depends on how its made. One created from scratch actually takes a decently high skill level to perfect.

I can say that about anything from soufflé's to chicken ala king.

4 down votes? Strange, those are a couple of depressing looking plates of food. Not much worse than baked boneless skinless chicken breast. I agree with 12 re: Sunday pot roast. No thanks.

Other boring dishes:
mac & cheese
chicken and dumplings
jambalaya

not that they can't be kicked up a notch in rare circumstances, but the vast majority of people cooking them turn out a bland snoozer of a dish.

I love a perfectly roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. Add some steamed broccoli and home made rolls and you have a perfect simple meal.

Baked chicken breasts only is a horrible dry thing that no one should make.

mac & cheese

While this can be boring in the most basic of terms, most places I go have excellent mac & cheeese.

R2R, how often do you eat in a diner that has boring mac & cheese compared to a restaurant that has good mac & cheese? Like high hat, cowbell? I'm sure you've found a non-beer place to hang your hat by now.

The only way the dishes in this thread turn out "boring" is a lack of skill on the part of the cook, or put another way, the lack of good technique on the part of the cook.

I've had the mac and cheese at both places and neither would I order again. "Gourmet" mac & cheese just never lives up to the hype of the people who go nuts over it or the buzz words the restaurant uses to describe it.
