Or is there something else the food board recommends?

Get a chimney starter and 2 full sheets of newspaper. Be ready in one beer.

I've done the Chimney but prefer an electric starter. Trying to think of a grill toy for the wife to get me for Christmas

Turn anything into a smoker. It even cold smokes.

Looftlighter is the safest. Plumbers torch is the fastest. I use my Looftlighter for all sorts of things, finishing pizza, creme brûlée, s'mores with the kids'...

My Looftlighter crapped out on me after only 1.5 - 2 yrs of use recently.

Back to the trusty MAPP torch for quick lighting.

I use a couple of papertowels soaked in cooking oil. Works great and doest make a big mess like the chimney. But, that doest help your gift idea.

if you're looking for grill toys, look no further than the Kettle Pizza. Turns a 22" Weber grill into a pizza oven.

I saw this idea on another forum years ago, and it works great every time. Take the lint from your dryer's lint trap, and some paraffin wax. Melt the wax, but not to where it is too hot. I usually use a coffee cup and microwave for about 20-30 seconds, stir, and 20 more seconds. Roll the lint up into loose 1-2 inch balls. Dip it in the wax and set it on wax paper to harden. When you're ready to start a fire, whether in the grill, fireplace, or just a campfire, poke a hole in the wax and light the lint inside. It will burn for a few minutes, almost like a small candle. I've quit messing with the newspaper in the chimney starter.

I have one but it wasn't as great as I imagined it to be. I don't always use it actually.

I've tried that and it melted the bottom of my charcoal starter, and the bottom fell out. Not the best of ideas unless you have a really good charcoal starter that can take that kind of heat.

I use one like this:

Not that exact brand but very similar...one of those hooked to a propane bottle and you're cooking in about 5 minutes. No lighter fluid either. Just spread coals in the bottom and put the torch to it.

Don't know how that would work as a gift though

I used to do that on the side burner of my old grill. Medium flame for about 2 minutes got them going. I wouldn't try it with a fryer though.

I use a charcol starter and this to get it going:

Have been using for years. Can be found at Lowes. I stack two of them on top of each other. I also use them to start a fire in my fire pit.
