I have a double oven now, but may remodel the kitchen and go down to one oven (or one full and one 18" oven). Our family is starting to cook a lot more, and I want to make sure I have the right appliances for future needs.

So, are double wall ovens a luxury or necessity in today's kitchens?

Do you have big parties?

That's the best part about having a double oven. Helps prep for lots of people.

We are a family of 4 who cook a bunch. We have a double oven and I can count on 1 hand how many times I've used both in the 5 years I've had them. Only have used randomly during holidays and parties.

I mainly use both ovens when cooking for holiday functions. Other than that, I'm fine with just 1. When I do need both, it sure is nice.

Unless you entertain a whole lot, then you won't use the 2nd oven much.

I have a double oven and we entertain a little bit, and I still only use it once or twice a year.

Just me and the wife, but I use the double oven several times a month. I am a big fan of the double oven.

I have a double oven, and I've never used both at once. But I am pretty antisocial, so there's that :)

We have a DCS 6 burner w/griddle with a full size oven ad a smaller oven about 1/3 the size of the big one. Love it! Maybe an option to consider is a good outdoor grill that can work as an oven.

I have just one....haven't ever felt constrained by it. A little advanced planning might be necessary, but it's definitely not a necessity. I am a serious bread, pastry, etc baker.

I have one standard oven that serves me fine even when entertaining. In last month I purchased a breville counter top oven (800bxl) that I'm enjoying because I can use it for most things I use traditional oven for without heating bigger oven. While I haven't "needed" a second oven for entertaining, the Breville will probably get good use there too. So if you have the space, maybe look into a counter oven.

ETA: You can also look into a steam oven as a second oven. Because it has a different primary purpose you not find it as wasted space. You then can use it like a traditional oven when actually needing more space for a party. I don't have one myself, but my parents use theirs often.

I'm sure it qualifies as a luxury.

I have a double oven. They are identical in size and features. The thing I use both at once for are when I'm using one as a warming oven. It's great for keeping things on temp before serving.

one oven and Kamodo grill.

We use the Kamodo more, even for turkey's.

I have a regular wall oven and two toaster ovens. Have only used one at any given time.

Have used my 22" WSM in Louisiana as an oven at Thanksgiving. Did a ham and it was so well liked I will probably continue to do them like that in the future, even if the oven is available.

We decided we would only need a double oven for Thanksgiving and maybe Christmas. For us it was a luxury not worth the money when we remodeled our kitchen.

We do just fine without it and we cook a lot.

Consider 1 oven and a couple of warming drawers. I use them quite a bit at holidays and shindigs.

Have you looked into the speed ovens? Some folks are doing a regular wall oven and a speed oven or a range and a speed oven.

I had one of those in my last house that was nice but it crapped out on me. I couldn't justify the cost when replacing it and went with a microwave instead. Finding a built in kit to retrofit the cabinetry was a pain in the arse.

I would second the breville smart oven...we bought the medium sized one, and it's big enough for a pie plate. To be honest, we use that more than our standard oven now and always have it going when we want to cook or keep a side warm while the main is in the standard oven. These aren't your typical toaster oven...

I use both ovens regularly no matter the number of people. I used two tonight for two people. Adding a warming drawer.

My mother and sister have 3 ovens and a warming drawer. I'd add a third if I had a good spot. We cook a lot, though.

The last time I had one oven I lived in an apt shortly after college.

Think about the foods you cook and how many folks you may be feeding. Your cooking habits should give you your answer. Many folks get along with one. One would drive me crazy.

I have a stove with oven underneath...... sometimes I wish I had a wall oven So I would not have to bend down to check on food and take it in and out of the oven.
