Food drives New Orleans; it's what's on everybody's mind throughout the day; what's for dinner. WHere is the best crawfish this week. Will I get a table at the new hot café, etc.

Truth. The quality of the food scene is a lot more than just the individual restaurants. New Orleans culture is based significantly on dining and food. It's embedded into the city's DNA. I'm really not trying to knock Houston when I say that they don't celebrate food to the degree New Orleans does. Very few cities do.

Seems to me that in the past 6 months every time a reporter contacts Besh, Emeril, Spicer, Gautreaux and asks them where they are dining in NOLA, they talk about the Vietnamese influence and restaurants...
i think i've seen some of the same programs as you. i think besh took bourdain to pho tau bay when he filmed there a while back as well.

but i don't think it's something that nola does better than houston...just IMO, of course.

Add Vietnamese and a fairly strong Asain influence to that list

You do realize Houston has the largest Vietnamese population off the West Coast, right? Second largest community in USA.

I really wasn't trying to put down Houston at all. One of my favorite cities, great food, shopping, Top Golf - lol - etc. Only thing I dislike about H is traffic. But, Oil drives Houston and food drives Nola and that's the truth.

But unless you lived there you wouldn't know. I haven't seen any nationally televised TV shows with celebrity chefs doing segments on the Veit food in Houston. Maybe I just missed them. Bigger isn't always better silly Texans.

If you go by % of population

Houston- 1.7%
Nola- 1.4% and increasing

You are missing the point. Its about the amount of people, its about what that community brings to the culinary table.

If I have to explain to you why the Vietnamese are such a huge part of Nola's culinary makeup then you dont know the seafood industry at all.

Well we dont have John Besh in Houston, otherwise I imagine they would go to Vietnames restaurants.

James Beard begs to differ...

Do you even Reef or Underbelly? Those are two examples of heavily Vietnamese influenced restaurants off the top of my head.

Houston is the most diverse large city in the country now as far as population mix. Hispanic, Asian, African, Caribbean, etc.

When coupled with the steakhouses and the "traditional" southern food scene, the result is incredibly varied and diverse. Probably unmatched anywhere in the world.

And I'm not a big fan of Houston as a whole... but its got that going for it.

The food was never great but it was good enough for bar food to watch a game. But it went south real fast, haven't been back in years.

Is Little Woodrow's the same company? Those locations are run a thousand times better than BW ever was. I go to the ones in EaDo and Midtown all the time.

Little Woodrow's has/had no affliation with Big Woodrow's.

I wonder why there wasn't a legal battle. The names are similar enough to cause possible confusion. I'm willing to bet a lot of people assume Little Woodrows were just the ice house/ bar extension of Big Woodrow's business. Steak night at Little Woodrows EaDo is on point by the way.

i sure did think they were affiliated.

i guess the difference in the way operations are ran at both, which is night and day, makes a ton of sense.

turtle races at the midtown location are always packed to hell.

Little Woodrow's is a statewide chain nowadays. Houston, Austin, San Antonio, hell they are gonna open one in Midland soon.

Houston is a great food city, but I think number one is a big stretch. Can't justify it being ahead of New York and Los Angeles.

Bun Bo Hue Duc Chuong, Pho Binh, Alpha Bakery, Thein An all beg to differ-hell I'd even put Les Grival up against anything New Orleans has.

Houston was all about Vietnamese before it was even slightly mainstream

But it actually was
