We can ask that people not comment until after voting is closed, although I definitely feel like it takes some of the fun away, and there is no way to police that as I am not an admin.
I think that's taking this a BIT too seriously, but I'm willing to implement whatever ya'll want.

I didn't mean you ATL......
I'm not suggesting we need to police this thing. It is all in fun. I'm just saying we should save some of the discussion until after the winner is announced. IMO

Congrats Blaze and to all that entered. I would have gladly ate all the entries. Hopefully I can participate in the next challenge. If I do, you can all give up now

I should have known the hunk of meat was Jax's entry!
Yeah, I made a mistake while cutting it at the end. I was cutting the steak and my daughter reached in to remove the ramekin of dipping sauce while I was cutting, and spilled it on top of the the steak. We tried to wipe it up, but it didn't look right after that.
I took another picture picture of the steak cut open from a low angle so you couldn't see the sauce, but it was from the tip and the tip was cooked to medium, not medium-rare, like the thicker middle of the steak. I wish I could have gotten a picture of the steak cut open in the middle of the steak. It was beautiful...

I feel like if I want to comment just like anyone else, I can.
Comment away.
Just as I don't vote for my own dish, I thought you, as the moderator, would remain unbiased, and objective.
The misconception is mine. I'm over it. It's no big deal.

Congrats, Blaze! Lots of good entries, all great contributions. I hope I can play next time. Pretty sure I would not have been as creative as those who entered this time!

We should get the ball rolling soon for March, since there's only 2 more days of Feb, then holidays. Hopefully even more people will join in.

Can we end on the last Thursday of each month?
Posted on 2/26/14 at 6:06 pm to Degas
I'll be in the Caribbean the first few days of March. After that we'll get started.

thx for the congrats as everyone who entered the challenge is a winner in my book
I encourage others to enter in a March as I'm always looking to improve my cooking skills and add new recipes to try out.
as for me , I have no formal cooking education ... just enjoy time spent in the kitchen and creating meals for others. I grew up in NOLA and can remember cooking when I was 10 yrs old. Moved to Laffy in 1987 and became enamored with the cuisine, culture, and music. For Christmas and b-days, I usually ask for $$$ so I can go buy new cooking toys.
I eat all types of food : Indian, Lebanese , Japanese, Mexican, Thai, etc ... and am always expiramenting with new recipes. When dining out, I make it a point to take mental notes on plating, presentation, and how certain foods blend together. I like to think outside the box and come up with new ways to prepare food.
regarding my entry, sushi is pretty much my favorite type of food. I bought this acrylic box press (see below) 2 weeks before the challenge and this was the first time I used it.
purchased it for $5.99 on ebay with free shipping. worked like a champ and so simple to use. I encourage others to add this tool to your kitchen as it will definitely impress your dinner guests
I think it's listed as an acrylic SPAM sushi press
FB , I'll get with you on the food suggestions when you return from vacation next week

R2R.. those were some fiya looking grape leaves. That was my number 1..

I thought R2R and I were going head to head with the same dish for a second. I got worried. He pulled ahead with those grape leaves though. Baller move.

As I said in my picks, I don't eat that style of food, but the creativity and presentation assured me if I did, I'd love that. Which is why I voted on it.
thanks for the kind words Nap, br, LL Congrats to everyone.. think you all did a great job - I'm continually impressed with the creativity and skill-level of our posters. mine, well, it was a fun dish to cook, albeit pretty time-consuming and frustrating at time. many things I would have done differently. It wasn't quite as flavorful as it looked. Hummus was better after the flavors married over a day. Tzatziki sauce looked thick, but was actually too thin to me .. need either more yogurt or a binder. Really should have marinated the steak. and my portions were off - Would use half the rice and double the meat next time. All in all a fun competition; looking forward to the next one!
and seriously Got Blaze, booga and bottomland, I would fricking destroy your sushi, pinwheel and burger dishes.
