I thought Pliny the Younger (TIPA) was considered the best beer in the world

But there are better DIPAs out there. That is all I am saying.

The focus here seems to be on this instead of Pliny being better than 99% of DIPAs out there.

I agree there are a handful if better ones. But it's still only a handful. Every single time I have Pliny, I think it's a damn good beer.

No it would be over rated if it was widely considered to be one of the best beers on the planet and no one agreed. I think just about everyone would say it is right there at the top.

Apparently it's over-rated as frick
Someone forgot to tell a shitload of people though

Which people? I'm not denying that people buy it out the wazoo or think highly of it. We're just nit-picking the extremely high rating.

And it's hardly rare or tough to get. Email or call Blackwell's and they will sell you all you want.

Well, you have buy other beers at the same rate, so that kinda speaks for it's demand. And that's not exactly a well-known source.

And to quote Dean in this thread:

quote:

Who drinks Pliny everyday? Its getting harder and harder to find and some places are place a single bottle limit.

I think that qualifies as tough to get.

Problem is, the last 2-3 times I've had Pliny, I had Heady immediately after.

I love the regular Moo Hoo, I can't wait to try the White Chocolate variation...I'll have to hide it from the wife, though. Moo Hoo may be her favorite non-sour beer.

Pliny The Elder. It's so popular, that nobody drinks it anymore...

Nobody wants to help me put my dream taste test together? :-(

Looks like I started a good debate.

To be sure, I like Pliny and would never turn one away. I think it lives mostly on its legacy combined with a strong West Coast bias. Several breweries may make a better DIPA nowadays. As for the ranking, its probably more a byproduct of the huge popularity of IPA's right now.
