The only HF IPA I've had is Abner, but it's their most regarded, so based on that:

Heady
HF Abner

Pliny

THA
Jai Alai

I am not saying it is not good. But there are many better DIPAs out there IMO. I've had it side by side with Abrasive, Heady, Double Jack and I think they are better. Degrees of greatness I suppose.

A more interesting rank would be greatness in relationship to price point in which I'd go

Jai Alai
THA
Heady
Pliny

I'd grab a $12 4-pack of 16oz Heady Topper cans over $9-$10 six packs of THA and Jai Alai any day.

I haven't had Pliny on tap but the freshest I've had is less than 2 weeks old. That said, I'd say Pliny is among the most overrated beers I've tried. Good beer? Yes.... Top 5 on the planet? Not by a long shot and probably not even Top 5 in its style IMHO..

$ per ounce, Heady beats Enjoy By easily. The bomber format isn't very efficient for the consumer.

I am out of both of these now, but I should make it to AL soon to stock up. Thanks though.

I would much rather try new beers all the time (even if I am disappointed as often as not) as opposed to drinking only Pliny every day.

I'll send you an assortment of Abita in return for a box of Pliny, Blind Pig, Sculpin and Double Jack whenever you say the word.

I'm glad we finally have some breweries like Parish, NOLA and some of the smaller ones producing some damn good beers, but we are WAY behind, some other parts of the country in terms of availability. If we weren't, I could spend a little at a time instead of dropping hundreds at Specs and Cottage Hill everytime I hit the road.

I think it is riding the waves of its legacy. I believe it is one of the first great beers brewed of that style and quickly became the gold standard. I truly believe if it came out today, it wouldn't garner such high ratings. A lot of its ratings were logged prior to the creation of many other world-class DIPAs, so it stood out more. Now, the field is pretty crowded.

I still think it is an absolutely fantastic beer.

Well shite, you'd think there would be way more Pliny available then

I guarantee if it was rarer, or tougher to get, or made by some local brewery, it wouldn't be "over-rated"

I'd drink Pliny over every other beer I've tried.

Tend to agree with you regarding Pliny. I actually think the RR sours/Belgians are mucccccch better. Damnation may be my favorite beer.

I think Jai Alai is close to perfection regarding IPAs. It blows THA out of the water IMO, so glad I can run to just about any store and grab it now. I'm not a huge IPA fan tho, granted I love DIPAs. I'd just prefer a number of other styles before an IPA

Lots of Pliny hate here. I still think it's fantastic, and it belongs in the conversation. Preference is for Heady and Abrasive, and Double Jack may be marginally better. But Pliny is a damn good beer that I'd be thrilled to get on a regular basis. Sure it has a bigger malt backbone, but those Columbus and Simcoe hops are fantastic. More earthy and piney than citrusy, but still awesome.

No more tonight. Killed the 750 of Grand Reserve, so I'll stop there.

Is anybody here drinking beer?

How so? It's a great beer and they don't make nearly enough to meet demand. And they don't seem to have any plans for expansion.

I'd say it is rare and tough to get.

I wouldn't question anyone who feels that way.

When you have more breweries, you have more releases, one offs, etc... Death by a thousand paper cuts.

I would trade with someone for a Heady and a Surly Abrasive. I can get my own Pliny and Double Jack. Would like to host a DIPA showdown. I can probably find some good locals like Hop Venom, Mosaic, and Sticky Hands to throw into the mix. That would be fun....

FBD

B, I saw the Abita Bourbon Stout is coming soon, any word on where they are sending it, just BR and NOLA?

Also I'm assuming they aren't bottling this as usual.
