Abita was the first to come to Mississippi when the beer law changed, and I'm grateful to them for that. But once you start trying new craft beers as I have been lately, you realize it's pretty mediocre. I do enjoy an Andygator occasionally and The Strawberry lager is good sometimes.

Abita's not very highly thought of in the craft beer scene. Actually it's a joke in the industry.

I like Turbodog mixed with Andygator, Wheat or Golden.

Prior to moving to to Louisiana I was typical Florida trash with a love for light beers. When I moved here I was pumped to try local products and switched to Abita. It was my gateway to explore more complex beers. I have found far superior beers and locally Nola beers are better but I still enjoy the gateway beer of Abita on occasion. I also like living close enough to the brewery to get bombed in an hour for free. I owe them some business.

This wasn't meant to be a "bash Abita" thread. I enjoy Abita brews as much as the next guy but compared to what's out there in the craft beer market, Abita is very very average. Just in this state, NOLA brewing tops Abita by a wide margin, imo.

That doesn't mean I don't enjoy an Amber or Purple Haze every now and then, and like stated in my OP really enjoy the RA.

I'm not gonna lie I cut my teeth on purple haze. Had a keg at my 18th bday party.

Drank a sixer at my Junior year prom?
lol

Abita was a gateway to craft beer. That gate is long far behind me.

Are you serious? Are you a "member" or the craft beer scene?

I enjoy high ABV beers as much as the next guy, but Abita has honed the craft of making approachable, drinkable beers for those who enjoy them. That market is a pretty large one.

Last I checked, people who own businesses like to make money, and the Abita model has worked. Owning a spot in the top 20 microbreweries in the US is a good way to gain the respect of your peers.

I do not know anyone who goes out and drinks double IPA's at tailgates, crawfish boils, or the beach, and that is what Abita is perfect for.

Cheers

I'd agree with that, but it's better coming up as a youngster on Abita than natty lite. And it's just in too many places for me to reject it.

I used to work in the industry. Abita is a joke. "It's bad, but not Abita bad."

Not everyone does that you're right.

There's absolutely no reason NOT to make a Double IPA or a sour or a ANYTHING that's not predictable.

God Bless, go look at Cigar City or The Brewery or Jester King. They are sought after nation wide. People talk about them. They are almost a destination or at least a must see/must buy when out of town.

I don't hate Abita. I'm not mad at Abita. I just don't like their beer's very much.

Some of them i will drink if they are free. Some of them I won't drink if they are free.

Very little of their stuff I would pay for.

hi.

I think I know you!

If I want something light to pound tailgating or at a crawfish boil, I am gonna go with a NOLA Blonde before I go with anything Abita puts out.
