i agree 100%.

but when it comes down to it, i like ipas, stouts, saisons, browns, porters and red ales FAR more than belgian beers

As you know, I like IPAs, stouts, and belgian style stuff. Ommegang was a no-brainer for me. I like the stouts and IPAs from other brewers as much or more than NOLA (for instance,I don't buy Hopitoulas for drinking at home), but there is almost always an Ommegang beer in my fridge.

Woah. How were these breweries selected and why were so many good ones left off?

Well we're down to the last 5 or 6 now... a lot have fallen by the wayside.

And they were originally chose due to being American, and available in Louisiana.

St Arnold

I think Ommegang is a better overall brewery, but I prefer the styles that St Arnold and NOLA brew.

some retard bought them for $1000 and is storing them next to their mid 90's baseball cards and beanie babies waiting for them to go up in value.

Playoff for #4 Spot
NOLA
Ommegang
St Arnold

Ommegang

I love Belgians and Ommegang makes the best in the US IMO

I like NOLA's base lineup (especially ICS).

I love St. Arnold's special releases, but they're kinda souring on me with the way they release beers that they know won't meet demand. If they make a beer that nobody gets to drink, is it still good?

All Louisiana available breweries were represented at one time or another.

This is only for the 4th spot. Top 4 coming next (tonight or tomorrow)

I get the homer stuff but c'mon guys. Nola isn't in the same league as ommegang or any of the top tier here.

Agreed. I think everyone needs to take off the fleur-de-lis glasses.

they are young and have a lot of potential. Hopefully they will live up to the (possibly unrealistic) high hopes.

Its hard to have a great brewery in a state where breweries cannot sell to the public. We will never have a brewery club like the bruery, or crooked stave.

If they could, I'd pay the $300 for 20 specialty bottles from parish (I have that much optimism in their abilities)

This is why I didn't pick Ommegang. Not because they don't make great beer, but because I can't get an IPA or a stout from them. Those are my 2 favorite styles, so the breweries that make them carry more weight with me. Your mileage may vary.

St Arnold - I really like some of the offerings from Ommegang but they are a niche brewery. I wouldn't want to be stuck being able to only drink their offerings. I think the top tier offerings from St Arnold are better than NOLA and I actually enjoy a good bit of their regular lineup as well.

Nice that we got some progress/clarification on breweries being able to sell 10% on premises...
