Keep waiting on our kitchen aid to crap out but that thing has more lives than a cat

We have one from years ago. My daughter drank a ton of smoothies when she got off the bottle at 1 year old. We burned up an older blender we had. Just some cheap Bed Bath and Beyond we had in college. It would do fine if you were just blending a few things up occasionally, but making one every day with frozen berries and it crapped out on us. My aunt got us a Kitchen Aid for Christmas that year, and 6 years later it is still running strong. It has a really heavy base, and the motor must be one of the strongest. Plus it has the larger pitcher on it, and I can make a huge batch of something in it.

I have a KA blender...after a dozen years, the plastic gear atop the base finally shredded. Bought a new one online for $3.95. Good as new.

BUT, I am now a firm convert to the BaMix immersion blender. It crushes ice and frozen fruit just fine, and I can blend my smoothie directly in the cup. Plop everything into it, then stick the Bamix w/puree blade into the cup and it's done in a minute. No extra container to wash...one less step during a busy morning. Plus Bamix has a bunch of different blades for diff purposes and is easy to store in a drawer. LINK

Our first vita-mix crapped out after 15 yrs. We then bought a vita-prep 3. It's been going strong for 10 yrs. We make 10-15 gallons of tomato puree every summer from our garden and freeze it in qt bags. It's a beast. I think it could make sawdust from 2x4's. Great margaritas.

Mine is getting a little worn. The teeth in it are wearing down, so you have to make sure the pitcher is set in there pretty well before turning it on. Glad to know I can fix it for under $5 when it craps out finally.

Bamix is the Cadillac (Bugatti Veyron? Koenigsegg?) of immersion blenders. Two speed, scary powerful.

My Ninja left a lot of pulp no matter how long I blended. It didn't seem to blend as much as it just chopped everything up at a high speed. The Vitamix? I'm absolutely blown away by how consistent my smoothie is. Not a bit of pulp.

I've considered getting a vitamix to replace my Ninja, but I like the pulp. I make green smoothies daily, and I sort of like the texture. I think I'd like it less if it was truly smooth.

On a slightly related smoothie note, I just discovered oversized, flexible silicone re-useable straws at WalMart. Perfect for smoothies or anything that's slightly chunky. Can be cut to desired length. On the shelves near the summer seasonal party ware (pitchers, plates, etc).

how do you clean them? I feel like my reusable straws get nasty so I always toss them

I use a flexible bottlebrush tip or pipe cleaner.

my wife is trying to get me to get us a juicer. i've read nothing but bad things about those frickers with the cleaning and shite

I do not understand why everyone says this. Mine just takes a few minutes to clean.

A vitamix and a juicer are two different animals. with a juicer you lose the benefits of the fiber but who cares if you have plenty of fiber from other sources in your diet? With a juicer you get a far more concentrated product. Just try to vitamix and drink the amount of vegetables it takes to a large serving of juice. That said both are great and it depends on what you are looking for.
