Wife keeps insisting on getting me one for Christmas. A decent sized one for gumbo. What’s a safe place she can shop without getting scammed? And what’s a decent price she should pay for one?

Some Ace Hardware stores have Mc Ware. Probably around $100

ETA magnalite no longer produces new cookware. Mc ware is the closest thing.

ebay for a Magnalite Classic. Don't be afraid of a used one in good condition. I rather my calssics than the McWare deals.

I saw a smaller sized one at an antique store yesterday(not in Louisiana). It was on the smaller size(maybe 7 qts) and it was only $24. I may go back and get it. Looks like that size is $120-$150 on eBay.

I just bought an Imusa 18" roaster a few weeks ago for gumbo season. I've cooked two so far and it's been a great pot so far.

It depends on whether you want authentic Wagner or GHC pots or you’re interested in new. Current production is Chinese (McWare and IMUSA) and are available as stated above (I just checked and Amazon carries IM USA).

If you’re only interested in Wagner/GHC, fleaBay is the only place to go for a quick buy. Decent price can be had and there’s a crapton over there. You just have to dig a little. I don’t know about everyone else but I don’t have the time to be running around estate sales this late in the game hoping to run into a decent one. Just my $0.02.

Also have an IMUSA at the camp and really can’t tell you that it cooks any differently than my mom’s Wagners from the 60’s.

I have one piece of McWare that I like a lot. It's disappointing that they are made in China, but I like the products.

My Mom has a large chicken frying skillet in Magnalite that love. McWare has a 12 inch that may be the same size, though Mom's looks bigger. I need to measure hers. I would like to have one the size of hers.

McWare is manufactured in China, but the company has Louisiana roots, so it's at least somewhat supporting local. I have a McWare set that I bought 8-10 years ago, and it's all held up well. The 10qt stock pot is great for gumbos. I have an oval roaster that I found in my wife's grandmother's kitchen that's original, and it's got nice patina, but I don't think it cooks any different. To me, if it's not a family piece, I wouldn't care if it was classic Magnalite or new McWare/IMUSA, and in some cases, both pots will be about the same price.

Wondering if anyone has used Mag-Ware. Supposedly made in USA from former Wagner employees. Wondering if it is close to the old Magnalite.

My grandmother has an old Magnalite that she always makes gumbo in for Christmas. I’d really love to have it one day.. might have to fist fight my sister for it.
But hopefully she’s around for a good bit longer so I’m wanting to get something now. The one that’s made in china would probably be a good fit for me now. Thanks for all of the suggestions! This is why I love the F&D board

Someone gifted me a "Magnalite" pot a while back, but it was actually an Imusa from Amazon. At first I was skeptical and thought I might find discoloration or uneven heating - but I've cooked in it a few times and it cooks just as well as my old man's OG Magnalite. No idea on the longevity but so far I'm satisfied.

Go to facebook and search for the group...Magnalite pots for sale in New Iberia....this guy has the biggest collection of used magnalite pots in US....I was there last week and saw about 400 pots in various sizes from simmer pots to 17qt oven roasters..in various condition...I bought a 13 qt roaster in excellent condition for $200...this guy knows his shite too...he's got one roaster with a locking lid that dates back to 1937...he sends anywhere from 5-8 pots out a date to people throughout the US! He's got a shop that can recondition them into as new condition...
