I don't know about the best, but Tommy's was good, and Cafe Giovanni was ok.

also, Midget.. you ever give us a result of this thread? Eleven79 vs. Cafe Giovanni

Wow nice find! Been a while. Yes we wound up at Brigstens, which was incredible. Haven't been to either Giovanis or Eleven 79, since they both get forgotten too often when we try to decide on a place to dine. On a few occasions we were in 79 area and stopped by, but they were closed. Can't remember the times, but I believe it was what would be normal for other restaurants. This thread got me talking with my wife's friend tonight while we were all out who said she used to do 79 often and loved it. I think we are planning this one soon.

ETA: Actually it was Martinique we went to, not Brigstens. Brig was a different night. Martinique was great overall... that night. I went there again about a year ago and it was not very good. Maybe they are inconsistent or just a bad night.

Between those 2, Eleven79 is the better option. Cafe Giovani's is a mediocre-bad Italian restaurant and is probably on borrowed time. Eleven79 is more consistant and has a few solid dishes. Veal is a dependable choice there.

Like Italian Barrel also. Just wish they would change name and get rid of the cartoonish sign. To me, it gives the place a rep akin to a cheap, fast food type Italian, which it most definietly is not.

does Red Gravy get no love from the F&DB?

I ate there once last year and had the lasagna and it was awesome.

Considered a tourist spot because of the location or what?

I've been intending to go to the Italian Barrel for years, now. I definitely have it on my radar.

Red gravy is good.

although if I want to eat Italian in a smaller casual cheap place, I would go to café nino on Carrolton (dive).

domenica IMO is better than 1179, but def two different feeling places. No love for rocky and Carlos? surprised to not see the name at least come up.

Irenes - very good for certain dishes
Mariza - terrific
Sal and Judy's - never been
Venezia - yikes; been so long I can't remember
Mosca's - love it for what it is
Domenica - great
Tony Angello's - okay, I guess, but not a fan
Ristorante di Piero - good, but not worth the drive out of my comfort zone

Ancora - love it

Maximos - used to be really good but, haven't been in a long time

Impastatos - not a fan

eleven - really good, imo; not cheap, doe

it gets it from me. It has become a favorite of mine regardless of cuisine. If I were to make a top 5 list, it would be solidly placed. Yes their lasagna is top notch. Best I've had. Their brunch is killer too.

Adolfo's is great. The ocean sauce is amazing on anything.

It's worth checking out at least once. Bring your billfold!

I think inconsistent is right w/ Martinique. I went once and thought the service was poor and the food was mediocre. O Brah pumps the place pretty often though. Buddy of mine who lived next door but has since moved away had mixed thoughts on it.

Yeah the courtyard is gorgeous. I think it's worth it just for their cocktails and scenery. Even when the food is average, it's still a nice night. However, the service was terrible with my last visit. That's difficult to overcome.

Personally I am a huge fan of Cafe Amelie for courtyard dining. That place is incredible.

I always enjoy Martinique on my visits. I've been enough that I would have noticed bad service so I don't think it's a systemic problem.

I think the food quality is slightly below LPG, and Patois.

I plan on trying Marcello's in the next few weeks. I'll post my review thread once I go.
