I've asked many people this question, and I've received many answers...

Vincent's
Irenes
Mariza
Sal and Judy's
Venezia
Mosca's
Domenica
Tony Angello's
Ristorante di Piero

Seems like Domenica seems to be the F&D Board favorite, although my personal favorite is S&J.

Definitely depends on what you're looking for.

Mariza and Domenica are definitely the best and the 'highest class' on that list.

After that Irene's.

I really hate old school new orleans italian, so keep that in mind. I think its complete garbage.

I'm right there with you Fun Bunch. It's a short list. IMO

This, drop off after these is substantial. I've never been to Da Piero, but hear good things.

Not all Italian restaurants are alike.

I love traditional Italian. I love the cannelloni at Vincent's. I have enjoyed every meal I've had at Cafe Giovanni. Some don't care for it. I love Domenica.

I love getting a cheap, greasy slice of pizza or a cheesesteak from Gino's

Cafe Giovanni is fricking terrible. Bland food and the chef is a douche.

Best in town for me are Mariza, Domenica, Marcello's and Vincent's.

This new place certainly deserves a try, and I forgot to add Vincent's in my 2nd tier.

Same. I think traditional old school Italian has a certain charm about it, and the food is so comforting and rich and filling. I am a sucker for rich, carby food.

I love Domenica too, though. And in general, I pick places like Domenica over places like Vincent's (mainly because certain people I dine with always choose old school Italian, so I know I don't need to get it when I'm choosing on my own).

I haven't had a ton of Italian in New Orleans. Other than Domenica and Vincent's, I just don't want to get Italian when I'm visiting.

Id also like to add the pizza stands off bourbon that are open late night.
But seriously, at those times, there is no better food

The one time we ate there he had his waitstaff preemptively tell us that there would be no making changes or substitutions to his dishes. Mind you, we hadn't suggested that we were even contemplating ordering any dishes and asking for a change to them. That rubbed me the wrong way from the get, then when what we ordered came out looking like "upscale" hotel food from the 90s and lacking any semblance of flavor that just put me over the edge. Chef Duke needs to 1) get over himself, and 2) update and learn to impart flavor into his dishes.

So one half of what made him a "douche" is that you think he can't add flavor to his dishes?

Every time I've been there, he's personally visited my table and other tables and was quite pleasant. Staggered some apps for me one time when I ordered those rather than an entree. He came over after the order and asked me how I would like them served. I thought that was a great touch. All of my food has been very tasty and service has been excellent.

I eat Italian once in a while when in New Orleans, but not every time by any means.

Tory McPhail posted a pic of a meal he had at Marcello's last night, I believe. Gonna look into that restaurant. If anyone has written about it, I must have missed it or thought it was in some other city.
