I've eaten at Maspero's and at Stanley's in the Quarter in the last six months.
I'd recommend Maspero's again. I'd warn you that Stanley's was overrated based on their location...and I've eaten at Muriel's across the street and their food was very good. So not everyone is skating on reputation there near Jackson Square.
Just not a fan...seemed like mass-produced and not a lot of thought in the cooking or the meal in general.

Clover Grill. Go before 5 a.m. while the après bar crowd is still there.

Ruby Slipper or Surrey's.
The line sucks at Ruby Slipper if you're not there early, especially if it's raining. Learned that the hard way.

I think they were closed for "winter cleaning" recently.
ETA: Excellent gumbo btw.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys! We chose Stanley, but I will definitely try the others soon.
We must've beat the rush at Stanley because we had no wait at all. The last 2 times I tried to go there, the wait was over an hour so we went elsewhere.
I had the omelette sandwich. It was very good, but the waiter told us it used to be better. He said they started pre-cooking the omelettes to make them quicker to serve, and that they used to be better. My nephew had the eggs benedict poboy and said it was great - better than he expected.
Both of us had the grits - bacon infused gold grits creamy with large (course) "grit kernels" topped with green onions. Grits were excellent. Flavorful without being overpowering as the ingredients might suggest.
I highly recommend Stanley!

I just noticed on my way to work that La Proficia has another new name. Go check it out and report back.

I saw that as well. I was going to last week, but the weather messed me up. I'll try this week.

A popover for the bread item in that dish would make a fluid filled gooey mess of deliciousness to dive ones mouth upon.
