Loro's is great but he won't get straight up ribs and brisket there.

Is Terry Black's the same as Black's bbq out in the sticks?
I remember driving a good bit just for Black's bbq.

No, but same family. I think Terry Black's is better.

To the OP - you may want to call ahead and make sure the place you want to go has beef ribs. That can be hit or miss sometimes.

My favorite BBQ in town, in no particular order, is:
- Terry Blacks
- Stile's Switch
- Mickelthwaite
- KG BBQ

^ haven’t tried KG yet but want to

Another that’s really good is Rolling Smoke on E 12th. In a good trailer park with a nice setup, lots of shade & picnic tables. BYOB plus the trailers sell water etc.

Bonus is Cuantos Tacos next trailer over. Street tacos are killer. There are a couple other trailers too so people have options if you have a group.

Been several times and never saw beef ribs available. Brisket has always been incorporated into another dish. But I'll definitely try again.

If waiting is not your thing and you want a legit meal then go to Rollin’ Smoke. Kyle Stallings is throwing out some legit BBQ. The G-Thang burrito is what legends are made of.

Louie Muellers is great
I understand he taught a bunch of guys to cook including Franklin.

I think Louie canonized "Hill Country" BBQ - post oak and dalmatian rubs.

Brett's in Katy learnt the craft there and it's awesome.

I love Salt Lick. It's really not far out in Round Rock.

Agreed. And it might have been a one-off, but when I went to Terry Black's at lunchtime on a Sunday, my total time in line was ~45 minutes. I didn't do any sort of early hours lineup deal, nor did I spend hours in line.

Last time I was in ATX was before the LSU game in 2019 and on Friday we went to Barton Springs then went to Terry Blacks and walked right up without hardly any wait at all. We went around 3pm. Terry Blacks was some of the best BBQ i have ever had. I cant imagine anything else in ATX (or anywhere) being much better but I guess I am not a BBQ aficionado

SL gets a lot of heat or criticism from many on here. I get it, as it is stiff competition in Texas for Q.

But I like it. The best SL is not in Round Rock; it’s in Driftwood, the original. Be prepared to wait. I like the experience.

I haven’t been before but I really want to go. I hear it’s much busier now since it was featured on Somebody Feed Phil, though.

Only been to Terry Black's in Dallas. It was a nice place with an impressive smoker setup.

The bums in Deep Ellum are out of control though
