lakeside shopping center - 1960. what part is the original?
Here's a photo: Note that it is open-air.

In the 1961 photograph we see the new Lakeside Shopping Center at Veterans and Causeway. Considered a regional shopping center, Lakeside was built in the then modern mall style with a vehicular-free open-air pedestrian-only central court. It offered the largest parking facilities in the south. For the first time, D.H. Holmes, Godchaux’s, and Kreeger’s opened off-Canal Street locations in Lakeside. The mall’s one-stop-shopping experience included a T.G.& Y., Walgreen’s, Winn Dixie, and Western Auto. The modernistic lights at Lakeside were the talk of the day and could be seen from miles away. When Lakeside Shopping Center opened in 1960 it touted its stores as being “all under one roof” but the center court was open to the elements. It was enclosed and air-conditioned in 1968. In 1966 Holmes enlarged its Lakeside location but was still proud in 1975 to announce that its suburban stores in Metairie and on the West Bank were located in enclosed air-conditioned malls. well-adjusted people.
Actually, I don't mind bud's but I only go late night/early morning when it's basically one of the only choices. Still, they are gross to be in. They have gotten better but I remember being at the one in Kenner once as a kid and it was disgusting.

Where do you think all the good flavor comes from. The "new" one on Causeway doesn't taste as good, and I think it's because it is too clean to be a Bud's

It's funny that you post this , while just one post ago saying you don't mind Bud's. Girls sure can be confusing.

Because when you phrase it as "that's where the flavor comes from" in reference to filth, it makes me want to .
If that's confusing for you, then I'm sorry.

I thought that the sarcasm would be implied. My B.
I honestly think their cooking surfaces are not nearly as seasoned as in the older stores, or my mind just played tricks on me.

I noticed that too. Even had to get up and check behind the counter for the glowing charcoal.

what was tg and y?
The 70s version of a cross between Wal Mart and Dollar General. Or, at the time, a poor man's K-mart.

Zuppardos looks like crap for sure.

TG&Y was what was known as a "five and dime" store.
And to keep this thread tangent food-related, Kresge's had a lunch counter where my mom would always get us a cheap "Sub Sandwich" which consisted of baloney, luncheon meat and american cheese with a little mayo and mustard. As a little kid, I thought they were pretty good. (And only cost something like 30 cents.)
Side Note: Kresge was renamed K-Mart in 1977. Come to think of it, K-Mart still has little snack counters.

Had Taco Tico for lunch. Texas Enchiladas were legit.

I assume the one in Kenner is still alive? At there a couple of weeks ago. A poor man's Taco Bell.
