Really glad we dodged the big one with this one.
Yesterday, the cab of a tanker truck caught on fire just off Chippewa Street near the contractor parking lot for Exxon.
I was passing by and stopped to watch the Exxon Rescue and BRFD baws put it out.
I gave some of the Exxon Rescue baws a hard time about how immaculately clean their bunker gear was compared to the baws from Engine Company 2.
Me thinks those baws won’t have clean bunker gear after today’s fire.
Glad everyone is ok.

-there was an explosion (obviously)
- fire was not contained as reported and not a building
-getting water to it was a big problem, causes a couple pipe failures
-still burning but much smaller

No injuries or fatalities confirmed?
Only a news blurb here in Houston.
What the hell is going on? These seem tp keep happening? Just poor luck and statistical anomaly or decreased standards and oversight?
Honestly asking. Lot of oilfield Baws on here.

The firewater system there has more leaks than the Government.

The same thing that caused the explosion is what saved everyone from being injured, all the operators were asleep.

Fire was contained. No, it wasn’t a building, but it was contained to the area where it originated.

Fire has been completely extinguished.

What the hell is going on is called high pressure O&G. Many of us live in fantasy worlds MONDAY morning QBing behind a computer desk, but there’s real shite that has to be done everyday that’s dangerous as hell and someone has to do it somewhere.
I’m sure there will be plenty that complain this keeps happening in BR, and it does. And that’s because that’s where the jobs are.

Early reports are always a waste of time. Everyone involved is reacting to the event and in crisis mode, managers and people from corporate are asking questions no one knows the answer to yet, product and inventory specialist are trying to figure out what to do and by the way, there is a huge fire occurring. Usually some public spokes person that doesn’t know the difference between a cooling tower and a reactor is sent outside to speak to local television in the middle of all this. If you told the spokes person the fire originated from a fin fan, they would probably think an Ole Miss grad had something to do with it. All they can truthfully say is they are taking precautions and addressing the issue. Anyone important that knows anything is working on the problem.
