Nate on the cusp of hurricane status

NHC probably on the conservative side with this update and it would not be surprising to see Recon find a hurricane. Hard to say just based on sat appearance but some buoy data suggest it could be stronger.

Theyll probably shift the cone more to the west throughout the evening as well, right?

With how impressive the storm looks now, I'd be surprised if it isn't a hurricane by tonight. Might be time to start upping those wind speed projections at landfall. Strong Cat 1/Weak Cat 2 not out of the question.

Not unless the models shift to the west.

If recon finds a hurricane now with it going to miss the yucatan this thing could strengthen formidibly towards cat 2 strength.

More accurately, here come the people who are weirdly upset it's not stronger and/or not headed for them.

FWIW, strong 1/low 2 was never out of the question.

Nate is looking better and better but still has that little wave to his west in the gulf that may still stretch out his center west to east and the forward speed isn't going to help either.

Intensity still has a wide range of possible outcomes getting close to 24 hours away from impacts.

It always baffles me why people would want a monster hurricane on top of them.

A lady slowly poisoned her child to garner sympathy on social media. I will never comprehend the limits of people's need for attention.

Storm Surge Warning and Hurricane Watch here in Destin. I live on the beach. Should I move inland or Hunker down?
