Mine is just absent other than sending a text every couple years. She hasn't sent my kids as much as a birthday card since 2011 or so.

My mother in law was great. After she passed away, the replacement was great. After she passed away, the third one ain't so great. Not terrible, but not like the other two at all.
One brother in law, on the other hand, I pretty much hate. His wife too.

Damn.
Does she communicate with her daughter at all?
What does she do with her time?

She just goes to work then comes home and gets stoned in front of the TV. She used to be a tiny bit more sociable but after my sis-in-law (her daughter) died a few years ago she just checked out.
My wife and her surviving sister have made a lot of effort to be in her life but she just doesn't reciprocate at all. At this point my wife pretty much considers my folks to be her parents.

Mine is the chillest, laid back person I know.

Both of my in-laws were self centered and hated me with a passion (they were divorced years ago).
My FIL (now deceased) told me (over the phone) he would whip my azz and I went and knocked on his door, he didn't answer. He also left everything in his will to a woman who was married to another man and nothing to my wife except a funeral bill that I paid for.
My MIL tried to tell me how to spend my money right before I told her to sit down, STFU, and listen for the first time in her life. Guess who's rent house she lived in (rent free) for several years.
Yeah, the one she hated the most is the one that took care of her when she needed it most. Now that she is able to take care of herself we never hear from her (even Christmas) and my daughter hasn't seen her in 10 years of so. She didn't show up for daughter's wedding and it's her loss.

At least she has that, which is pretty much the same boat that I'm in.
My mother is pretty awful (borderline personality disorder); father was never in the picture. Probably because my mother is fricking crazy. I feel the need to apologize to my wife any time she's exposed to my mother.
My in-laws are salt of the earth, great people. Very thankful for them and enjoy spending time with them.

I love mine. Helpful and not overly involved. My kids love her and she isn't bad on the eyes!

My sister's MIL is a bipoloar noncompliant diabetic who may have a touch of dementia. Mull that one over.

Although I don't think about it much (on purpose) it's kind of a bummer that I'll never have a MIL/FIL worth a shite but the fact that my parents are awesome more than makes up for it.

I actually love my MIL.
She had a stroke during surgery to fix a brain aneurysm.
On my off days I sit with her so that my FIL can mow/weed eat and run errands. Other days my wife sits with her.

My MIL is great. We get along well and I enjoy hanging out with her and my FIL several times a year.

My mother-in-law sort of fits the stereotype of the nosy, judgemental Baptist but we get along well enough. Deep down she really is a kind and caring person. Now my older step-daughter's dad died in a wreck when she was two and that dude's mother hates my guts and misses no opportunity to let me know. I can understand her resentment of my relationship with her granddaughter to some degree but after years of her petty bullshite I hate her right back and don't allow her to even pull in my driveway.

Mines cool. New Orleans Mardi crazy too. Some years the Christmas tree stays in place year round. You just go with it. Keeps her fridge stocked with good beer for me. I can't complain.

Mine is great. My daughter is the favorite kid, so that helps. She is thoughtful but not overbearing, and super talented at baking and meals in general. Like a meat and 5 sides are ready simultaneously.
It's gotten a bit more strained since we moved away, but that's normal (who wouldn't miss me?!).
I got a great one.

Not at all. My kids adore her and she would stop the world for them.
She treats me better than her own sons and will do anything we ask of her as far as errands, watch the kids for a night..,
She's coming over later to fry her amazing fried chicken and then watching our son while we go to a fight party.

Both sets of inlaws (wife's parents divorced and both remarried) are very nice people. However, they are all religious fanatics and I'm an atheist. So there's that. Every conversation ends up at Jesus eventually. At family gatherings, I usually go sit and watch tv while the rest of the family sits at the table and talks for hours. Good people, though a tad wacky at times.
