One of the tailgates I stop by uses wristbands. $10 for shitty beer and shitty food. No one ever got in trouble.

It disheartens me that they even give people MIPs during gameday. If the kid isn't causing a scene, just let it slide. I get it when someone is being belligerent or acting like a jackass but other than that I wish the police officers would just focus more on making sure some madman doesn't start mowing everybody down or something.

We all do but after the 2nd year when people we didn't even know where buying wrist bands then bitching about shite we decided that was enough. We have our good core group of 20-30 people depending on work/kid schedules and it's perfect. It was kind of cool the first year but by October of year 2 we were all done.

I'm guessing this is more for a student tailgate.
Yep. We had to do it at our setup in college. It was getting out of control. Now, we would never think about doing it

We only used wristbands during the big games each year where we expected 200-250 people, had 400 lbs of boiled shrimp, tons of other food, 15 kegs, etc... it was $30 per wristband. For other games it was simply a donation box which was bolted to a table.

Who monitors the wristbands and sends people without them off on their merry ways?

Not a tailgate expert. But if its gotten so large you can't control the drink and eats perhaps there is your answer.

In the end some one or more will get so involved in policing, who's allowed in, money, food wrist bands etc that all the joy may be sucked out of a day that is meant to be shared and cherished.

This right here. Make it BYOB as a stated policy and provide food for all and keg to those you know. Sucks that things are so PC now, but you gotta cover CYA!

We all chip in, no wristbands. its just an honor system, and frankly non of us mind sharing from the keg or grill.

We all do this with each other but it's grown substantially that we have people coming that we sort of know but not well enough that it's worth taking a substantial financial loss. We are in college.

I get it. Most of us were in college once upon a time and having the biggest party was high on the priority list. You grow up and you learn that it's the core group that will be around in 10, 20 & 30 years. Plan and provide for that group and ditch the wrist band idea. Anyone that thinks you can just show up to a tailgate without their own shite isn't worth keeping around anyway. However, if these moochers are majority females then I totally understand.

The only thing is these aren't total randos. The core group is Our year in architecture and our very close friends. The wristbands would mostly be for the new younger architecture people we try to invite into the party. There's about 200 architecture people at LSU each year so if we even got 25% of them to come we would need a system to manage it. I 100% seeing it shrink even in the next 5 years. But we're in college and right now it is party time.

I'm the organizer! I'm the one fronting the equipment and cash (the core of the tailgate chips in more) and the stragglers we don't know to well are the ones who have to pay and get wristbands if they want to drink and eat.

If you're talking about a crowd of close to 100 people or more it's going to be really tough to police the wrist bands. When you're running something of that size you pretty much have to just account for a loss factor. Otherwise you'll spend all day trying to head count hot dogs and buns and shite.

Tailgating is not an entitlement. Unfortunately it costs to play. We have about the same 15-20 people pitch in for ours but there are constantly people coming through and grabbing this to eat or making that to drink. The friends of friends thing gets old but hey, it's a tailgate. Upwards of 100 people coming through. It's the nature of the beast. I promise you someone is losing money each week. But if it's not in your budget maybe you should rethink the size of your tailgate. Charging, IMO, just doesn't seem like the thing to do.

Maybe do something less conspicious than wrist bands. Like maybe special nipple rings for the ladies.....let me know if you go that route and ill volunteer to work the beer tap and verify membership.
