What your parents could afford is not the same as you. Welcome to the real world
Their house cost 200k in 1992. That's about 450k now. So almost in that ballpark....
The consensus in this thread is that the upper limit is probably around $350k.
Helpful, but also on brand and hilarious....
So really you can barely afford your lifestyle, not your mortgage.
What lifestyle? Our fixed monthly costs for amenities are like $400 (utilities, netflix, etc..), food is around $600 between the 2 of us. Most of our money goes to savings/investments. We don't have loans or a car...
Fine. Then this poster can't afford to live there or they need to find something below the median. You can't have champagne taste on a beer budget, and then flip about the high cost of living in an area. I would keel over with a house note that big. And I'm sorry, but a $500k house is real...
That sucks. Home ownership has a lot of costs, in time and money, over and above the P&I and escrows. Do you have to do yardwork or maintenance on the townhome?
We mow the lawn. That's about it....
greatly overestimating how much home you can afford JMHO.
What's crazy is there's barely anything below 300k in our area unless its below 1000SF. And we don't even live in a big city. We live in a city of less than 30k people in rural Virginia. We're 90 minutes from DC whic...

In the market for a house...

Just got married and now the next big step is looking for a house. Total household income is $160k. Looking at things below 500k in our area. That gets us about 1500-2000 square feet with a decent yard and usually an unfinished basement. We don't have any debt or car payments but obviously that ...

Most historically inaccurate part is that John Adams wasn’t actually a real person. Most founding fathers were an early government conspiracy to cover up all the work women did during the revolution to found our country. Just read a great article about this on The Root last week. I had no idea. ...
It caught all of those actors at the perfect time. MM and RDJ before their renaissances, Cruise before MI had its back end renaissance and that’s all he started doing going forward. Plus Jack Black and Ben Stiller when they were both still A list comedy stars (not that they aren’t, but I can barely ...

When’s the last big long term baseball contract that works out? I feel like these guys always get these massive deals in their late 20s and then are complete arse for the rest of them into their 30s. ...
Like, a basic four in hand/schoolboy knot? It’s objectively easier than tying your shoes Now tying a fricking bow tie, on the other hand… I have to look it up again every time I put on a tux…
It’s funny you say this because a bow tie is the exact same knot as your shoes…....
It’s upsetting that we got Tarantino movies in 2012, 2015, 2019, and now we’re coming up on 5 years past 2019 and we don’t even have a script yet. It’ll probably be 7-8 years between his 9th and 10th movies. Although COVID does play a role disrupting things for a few years. ...
