Does Simmons solidify the #5 spot on all time LSU squad?

It's always fun to do this but there was never a solid consensus for who the #5 guy was.
Obviously the starting 4 were
Pistol
Shaq
Jackson
Pettit

Easily. the only thing that will hold him back from equaling the others (not count Pistol) is that he won't be there long enough.

With one and done, it will be hard to really know.
The player you see in the NBA is not going to be the Simmons at LSU. Once Simmons gets in weight room, works on jump shot and is not so raw he will be one of the top players in the NBA.
His game awareness skills are off the chart though and the things he can do at that size are rare.

I wouldn't say he is raw. He will be in the convo for MVP by his 3rd year in the league I think. His outside shooting is probably his biggest thing to work on and once he is in the NBA he will fine tune that as well IMO.

Yes.
Just because he's a one and done does not disqualify him from being one of the best basketball players ever at the school.

Was thinking about the starting 5 on my team the other day...
Pistol
CJ
John Williams
Ben Simmons
Shaq
Simmons isn't there yet, but you get his rebounding along with Shaq and a guy who absolutely adores passing the ball, plus a big man with guard handles and this makes for a potent roster.
But honestly, with Pistol and CJ on the perimeter, no one else gets a shot unless they are leading a break or grab a board.

That starting 5 is about as good as it gets

On pure ability, sure. But he won't have a body of work to stack up with the others, IMHO.

Would be a top 5 starting 5 for sure.

Chris Jackson
Pete Maravich
Ben Simmons
Bob Petit or Rudy or Bass or Baby
Shaquille O'Neal
There honestly may not be a better lineup ever. Simmons can't shoot, but with CJ and Pete why would he need to.

statistically, for sure.
Impact wise, Im not convinced yet. Id say a guy like Marcus Thornton, his SR yea, was slightly more impactful on his team. My mind is still blown we have 6 losses when you look at his stat line.

I hate to tell y'all this but Simmons is s real good player. I just don't see where he is one of the best ever at lsu in 17 games. Imo there is no way he is top 5 in lsu history. Say what you want but if he is as good as y'all think, lsu would have a better record than they do.

All of the losses and only being here one year really causes problems.
What he does in the NBA is irrelevant.
His stat line is great, but Geert Hamminck averaged 20 and 10 his last year. Someone like Ricky Blanton or Glen Davis might have had a greater impact.
It just depends on how you judge the "best" players. By NBA production or impact at LSU?

It depends on what criteria you are basing this on. Is it pure athletic ability and talent, or career accomplishments while at LSU?
