Y'all didn't tell me it came with roast beef gravy on it. It was pretty damn good.

Next time I'm getting the poboy.

I don't know what Parenton's is, but canned green beans seem to be typical on a plate lunch. Not that I don't wish for fresh.

Not a damn thing wrong with canned green beans.

I enjoy canned carrots as well.

I don't know for sure that they were canned. They were soft, but had great flavor.

Or frozen, for that matter. A ham hock, some new potatoes, and green beans cooked soft...I'm happy.

Try the canned new potatoes and add to a can of green beans with a bunch of butter. My father loved that. My mother just shook her head.

And it mid November so not a lot of fresh green beans around.

Speaking of beans I just saw Blue Runner dried red and white beans. Can't recall ever seeing them dried.

I've never had frozen that I liked at all. I think it's the texture that throws me, whether cooked soft of just simmered.

I like canned green beans. Depends on what you do them, but they can taste pretty darn good. Cook them down with bacon and onions or ham hock or all of the above. I always keep a few cans on hand for a side when I can't find good fresh beans.

It was a joke - I figured some of you guys would remember TigerMike or whoever going off about canned green beans. Shame on y'all.

That is one of my Thursday favorites! I almost got it today, but the Hillbilly BBQ Smoked Chicken salad won out.

Canned green beans have their place, but at least you have to spring for the whole ones and not the cut ones.

Did you guys know how much sodium is in a 2 cup can of green beans? It's over 80 times more than a 8 ounce bag of potato chips.

The canning process tends to negate saltiness in canned foods

yeah she said she may discontinue, she said it's her most expensive special and as of last week wasn't selling out every day. (this was last Friday when she sat down with us and talked.

about the beans (canned green beans)

It's a small counter restaurant, I don't expect fresh green beans there, plus they are so good with the bacon.

I actually told Brenda she should cut the meat portion in half (you usually get two steaks) serve it with the mac or a salad and green beans and charge $8 and not $11.95.

I think what sometimes turns people off Parenton's is that it appeals to the working man, but then it's a $15 lunch. (which I am fine with) but Guillory's is similar style food and their lunch specials are always $8.

I prefer Parenton's and I love Brenda, but I think she needs to have a cheap lunch special and then maybe a dinner sized lunch special. It's a lot of food you get there for lunch.

My go to there is the Chicken Parm on Wednesdays or the Soft Shell crab. I think the meal is a better value at $1 more than the poboy and nearly twice the meat.
I did get the po-boy last week though with a side of gravy, so good.

Agree !!! If out of mashed potatoes at least have rice and gravy. This is the first time I have seen noodles served with chicken fried steak and living in Texas I've seen quite a few. It looks pretty weird and should be against the law.

Oh, and if given the choice (buffet or pot-luck) I would choose canned green beans every time.
