Google sort of implies this, but your wait time for an invite seems to depend a lot on where you live in the US.

A family member in Vermont got his invite a couple of weeks after sending his request.

Here in central Texas my wait time looks like it could be 5 months following my April request.

It would be interesting to know what determines this big difference in wait times.

yea. i got mine quick while people in the same area that signed up before me are still waiting months. see this thread.

I believe it has to do with your google history as well. I have been with them since their inception.

I had a GMail account years before that family member who had the sorter wait.

I also pay for Google AdWords and Google Voice services - and they don't.

So I'm guessing the wait depends on location or some other demographic, but not on how long you've had a Google account.

i wasnt saying just based on how long you had a google account. But I do believe that is a factor. Sorry google doesnt like you and wont give you an invite.

I'd say location is the key. Like someone else said less invite requests in smaller states like Vermont.

I placed my invite request and got it exactly two months later on June 23rd here in Virginia.

then explain why i got an invite well before people on here when i signed up after them and they live in the same city as me.

According to Google, and many posters on the Reddit sub board, the invites are somewhat random. I think they are prioritized by zip code to ensure proper testing in different areas, but random after that.

I requested an invite the 2nd day they were opened, and was one of the early Gmail Beta testers, have had Google Voice a few years, and I'm still waiting on my invite.

There's a poster on Reddit that requested an invite in the first hour, lives in NYC, and has been on several of Google's Beta tests, and his status still says 12+ weeks.

There are some interesting items on the Reddit board if you sift through the posts.

For example, some users reported getting invites when their status said "Expect your invite in 3–4 weeks."

Yeah mine's been at 3-4 weeks now for almost 2 weeks, and I keep hoping my invite will show up earlier, but nothing yet.

I have read about a service called Republic Wireless which is similar to Google Fi. Is anyone familiar with this service or using this service?

It looks like the 64 GB Nexus 6 is now sold out at the Google Store.

Am I right that the primary use for 64 GB is to save lots of music or video for offline viewing?

Is there another compelling need for that 64 GB version?

Of course my invite arrives today when I'm leaving for a week's vacation tomorrow.

Guess I'll get signed up when I return.

I never heard of Google Fi before this thread. Signed up for the invite. I guess all you guys on Fi are using the Nexus 6, how do you like the device?

I have Republic Wireless (just got it a couple of weeks ago). Feel free to PM me or ask any questions; I really enjoy it so far.

My Project Fi invite appeared a week ago, when my status still showed 'Expect your invite in 3-4 weeks.'

The Project Fi starter kit arrived by FedEx 3 business days after I ordered. I bought the Nexus 6 separately on the Google Store to get the 64 GB version, and it arrived a day later.

The Project Fi invite kit includes the SIM card, a white protective back cover for the phone, ear buds, and an external battery pack you can use when traveling. The Nexus 6 phone I ordered from the Google Store includes only the phone and a Turbo charger.

The only (minor) issue in transferring my phone number is that I had to call my old carrier to get a "secret" account number, different from my phone number, that's needed to unlock the account. Once I had that account number and my PIN, the transfer took several hours before the new phone received calls and SMS messages.

One small snag: I discovered that by default incoming Project Fi calls rang first on my PC, and then only rang on the new phone after a 3-4 second delay. Opening the small Hangouts icon on the bottom of my Gmail page and clearing the 'Ring on incoming phone calls' checkbox solved the issue.

So far, a big advantage is having a phone that's free of my old carrier's bloatware and has the latest Android 5.1.1 installed. Compared to my old phone there's much better control of phone ringer silencing, much better management and display of SMS messages, far better onscreen keypad, etc.

It's also nice to see that new low cellphone bill. Project Fi bills you in advance, so you'll see your first bill right away.
