I am a PT. I have my doctorate. I don't address myself as Dr. to patients but I'm "technically" a Dr. The education PT's get is comparable to those in med school. It is soley based on the musculoskeletal and neuro systems. However, it is not required to go through residencies... Yet.

Same thing is happening with the term engineer.

Yea, Scruffy knows. He has plenty of friends who are PTs.

It's fun to poke fun at people though.

So much animosity.

Don't janitors call themselves sanitation engineers now?

First you have to define what a "real doctor" is

Don't believe that is true.

I don't think it is either. That would mean a dentist would have to go to medical school, then dental school. That doesn't sound right.

Oral surgeons go to both dental school and medical school.

That makes sense. He was probably talking only about oral surgeons.

A simple and imprecise rule if thumb is that if you can write prescriptions, you're a doctor.

Aren't we just "tooth carpenters". At least that's what that old instructor dude in dental school told us.

Or did he say we were doctors and not "tooth carpenters"?

shite, fwiw, I don't like to be called doctor anyway. Just call me Maestro.

I know NPs can and for most practical purposes NPs can be considered doctors.

Of course they are. They have a doctorate. They spend 4 years at Dental School, just like MD's. DDS stands for Doctor of Dental Surgery so they technically are surgeons. Your friend is an idiot.

They have a doctoral degree so yes they are. They are also in a medical field. However, they are not medical doctors.
