If in downtown and like whiskey/bourbon check out The Reserve.
Right across the street there is the fancy bowling alley with a nice bar and stuff but I forget the name.
Down the street from there there is House of Blues and Petes Piano bar.

Lucky Strike is the name of the bowling alley. Thanks.

Both TopGolf are a blast and really nice places, but please please call ahead on a Friday/Saturday.

Me and my friends have tried going at 4-8PM on a Friday and Saturday and faced 2 hours waiting times. Call ahead!

Notsuoh downtown is the weirdest bar on the planet. It is, however, an after hours industry hangout.

There are lots of downtown bars missing from this list, so I will just copy and paste them from a different thread:

-Reserve 101 - Extensive whiskey selection. Near House of Blues.

-Dirt Bar - Kind of a grunge rock and roll bar. Address: Next to Reserve 101.

-Flying Saucer - 300 kinds of beer. Projector for sports. Smells like tortilla chips and your clothes will too because the ventilation is messed up. Still a great place. Address: 705 Main (Main and Capitol).

-Spring Bok - good food, great sports watching environment upstairs. Address: 711 Main (Main and Capitol).

-Sunny's - strong, cheap drinks. Eclectic crowd Try th Ray Charles shot. Sunny (the owner) literally takes three bottle caps and makes a shot out of whatever bottles they hit. Address: Main and Capitol.

-Sambuca - live music, average cocktails. Address: Travis and Texas.

-Molly's and Shay McElroy's - Basically the same bar directly across from each other on Main. I'm not a fan of either, really. Just local bar environment. Address (Texas and Main).

-El Big Bad - Infused Tequila joint - worth checking out. Address: Travis and Prarie.

-Pastry War - Mezcaleria. Dope margs - terrible TV situation. They do not serve pastries. Address 300 block of Main between Congress and Preston.

-Dean's - Recently renovated; looks great - usually empty. Address 300 block of Main between Congress and Preston.

-Bad News Bar - best cocktails in town. Will be packed on weekend nights. No tv. Don't expect particularly cheery service, but the drinks are absolutely top notch. Address 300 block of Main between Congress and Preston.

-Little Dipper - average drinks. So so place. Address 300 block of Main between Congress and Preston.

Honeymoon - Cocktail coffee bar - good place. (300 block of main).

-Warren's - strongest drinks downtown. Not a happening spot. Address: in between Preston and Congress on Travis.

-OKRA Charity Salloon - probably most popular bar downtown - all profits go to charity. Drinks meh. Order the beef jerky - it is the most delicious jerky on the planet and made fresh in-house every day. Address: On Congress in between Main and Travis.

-Hearsay - good food, good drinks, not much space. Address: Corner of Congress and Travis.

-La carafe - oldest building downtown; beer and wine only; cash only. Address Corner of Congress and Travis.

-Clutch City Squire: pool table, smallish; drinks ok. Address: 400 block of main between Preston and prairie.

-Barringer: directly above clutch city. No marked door or sign. (Same for bad news bar above). Usually a live band or DJ on weekends. Cool space.

-Notsuoh - strangest bar on the planet. Industry hangout late night. Address: 300 block of main between congress and Preston.

My pleasure. As a downtown resident, I want as many LSU fans down there drinking as possible. But, without a doubt, midtown will be the place to be for hot women. Downtown's gotten busy on the weekend's but we're not quite there in that department.

OP, add Gaslamp to the midtown bars.

Also, is there a chance we can get a breakdown of the parking situation? I just scored tickets today and although I live in Houston, I've never been to a game at NRG, so I don't know where to park and whatnot.

Staying at the Houston Mariott at the Texas Medical Center. How far tis this from the eating and rail lines you've listed?

You will be a 10 min train ride south of midtown and downtown and the same to NRG. If you draw a line between Midtown and the stadium where you are is right in the middle and right next to the train. The hotel probably has a free shuttle as well.

Look at the map on the first page of this post. There is a picture of the red rail line and you'll see your stop (zoo). The station is literally outside the hotel lobby. Train is perfect for going out when staying there.

If you are inquiring about the parking situation, drive downtown, park in a lot by the rail and then get on the rail to the stadium. It will save the hassle of traffic and will save you money.

I'm going with a group of people, 52 to be exact & we're staying at The Royal Sonesta Houston. Would you consider that Downtown or Galleria? Also, what bars are close by? Any help is appreciated.

Any idea when BTE hits the stage? Astros first pitch is 7:10.

Sonesta is definitely the Galleria. I don't know much about that area so I will let others comment.

That's a huge group, are you asking for game day or just to bounce around? Midtown will probably be out if the question, there's not a lot of great places to go around The Galleria. Outside of the immediate mall area, it's not a great place you want to be around.

With that huge group of people I would probably head to the downtown area and park by Flying Saucer (there's a large lot that, last time I was there, was machine payable i.e. Takes credit card and not putting cash in a seedy box).

There's tons of great bars around there and it won't be too crowded that you can't spread out; a little taste of something for everyone.

Personally, if I was in your guys shoes, I'd look into renting out the upstairs at Flying Saucer or finding a place that can house you all in one space.

If you don't want to pay some guy on a street corner with a cardboard sign to watch your car, I'd suggest buying a parking badge or trying your luck in the free for all lot (I think it's yellow). I will say, pulling up to the stadium on that side (610 and Kirby) is going to be traffic hell.
