where is everyone staying at downtown? any recommendations? Are the hotels next to the bars.
I want to see a lot of women. Where is the after party downtown.
There are bars dispersed throughout downtown so it really depends on where you are staying as to whether or not they are right outside your hotel. You won't be far either way.
If you want to see a lot of women, then you will want to go to midtown. Dogwood is a good place to start and you can stumble bar to bar after that.
After Party? Midtown for sure.

Most bars downtown don't usually open until 3 or later on Saturday. Saucer is a notable exception. I will talk to some of the bar managers this week and let them know we are about to takeover. Hopefully, they will open earlier. If not, midtown is a safe bet, but the bars aren't as good IMO.

I am staying near the galleria and I am planning to drive and park at the stadium. Is it better to come in from the north (mid-town) or from the West (610/Kirby)?

Treasures. Uptown/Galleria area.

You have a few options and I think it depends on what you want to do prior to and after the game.
If you are looking to go out to the bars before the game in either Midtown or Downtown, drive over to midtown/downtown and park, then take the Red Line on the train to NRG and back and avoid driving to the stadium.
If you are looking to go tailgate you have 3 options.
1) Drive - You will have to pay an arm and leg for parking and may have to walk quite a bit to get over to the stadium. Leaving the game will be a ngihtmare as it is with any large sporting event.
2) Cab It - From where you are, you can always take a cab and spare the parking costs. If you plan on going out in Downtown/Midtown after the game, you can also catch the train from the stadium to those areas and then cab it back home again.
3) Uber or Lyft It - Exact same scenario as above, except instead of using a cab service, download the "Uber" and "Lyft" apps and use the free codes on the first post of this page. That will give you a free ride to the stadium and back to the hotel from wherever you end up after the game (Stadium or downtown).

How hard is it to find cheap parking near the train stations downtown or in midtown?
Posted on 8/25/14 at 2:45 pm to FriscoTiger
Not hard at all, some you can even grab a free spot. I think there is a large grass lot by the McGowen stop.

Thought never even occured to me that DT bars wouldn't open early this weekend, but I sure hope that they do.

Have looked on the rant and can't find the answer to this question - looking for tickets on stub hub for the Wisconsin game but don't want to end up in the Wisconsin sections Anyone know how to find out where the LSU fans are sitting? I presume there are designated sections?

Honeymoon, El Big Bad, Saucer, Springbok, and Hearsay will all be open as per usual. I spoke with bartenders at Bad News Bar and OKRA yesterday and let them know they should open shop. My guess is that they gauge the crowd on Friday night. If you hit downtown Friday, let the bars know Tiger fans start early.

Just fyi for anybody that maybe doesn't have a room yet. A couple of days ago I used Priceline name your own bid. I bid $180 for a 4 star hotel downtown and got the Hilton. The listed rate on their website was $209.

Good advice, and that is a great hotel! There is a mexican restaurant in it that is great and it is a short distance to the downtown bars and midtown

Questions about the metro:
Do I need cash to buy the tickets or will credit card work? Also, can I buy a round trip ticket or do I have to stand in line again to get a ticket back to downtown after the game?

Request to add 2 Restaurants...
Hungrys in Rice Village and the OG 59 Diner off Shepard/Greenbriar. 59 Diner is open 24 hours for those late night or early morning cravings. The pancakes are amazing.

Barnaby's for food and late night (24 hours)
Warning... Barnaby's is of a gayer variety. Not there is anything wrong with it, but patrons be warned haha I went there with my family and some family friends in high school on the family friends suggestion. The food was really good, but it got really really awkward when the waiter started hitting on me in front of my very Catholic and conservative parents My dad still busts my balls about it.

Galleria.
Jump inside 610 and check out Highland Village. Nice place to stroll around and Sprinkles is good if you havent had them before (gourmet? cupcakes). Also just drive up and down Westheimer West of The Galleria. Tons of good spots along there for food. Lots of variety too as far a cuisine.

Any events happening Saturday that I can bring my kids to?
If you go early enough, you could hit the Museum District and or Hermann Park/The Zoo, which also is right off Main St and the light rail. Museum/Zoo right to NRG would be easy if done properly. Also what others said about the LSU Tailgate at the Reliant Center, right next to NRG and A/C.
