ASU's team and student crowd is on the east side. In 100+ degree weather. With no shade. Sounds like whining to me.

You think the dome home games against teams with more fans than Tulane was a recruiting advantage?
Also, FSU hasn't played Tulane in 20+ years.

It is all about butts in the seats and concession money. They will draw more and Benson and the Saints get the beer money in the Dome.

I still think it's a recruiting advantage as well.
Son come to Tulane you can play in the superdome in front of 10k people. You will be able to hear the AC that cools down the saints.
The dome hurt recruiting more than it helped.

fo sho
it hurt recruiting, meant they didn't get concessions revenues, kept former students off campus (which is the point of sports, get them on campus and hit em up for money), hurt club seating revenues, and just plain looked bad.
Miami has a lot of the same issues since Shalala chained them to Sun Life.

I can't stand Ed Daniels. He's comes off as such an elitest prick on Buddy's show.

Yeah. It was a sharp change in atmosphere when Houston moved out of the Astrodome back to their campus. Don't know if it impacted recruiting, but it got the alumni back on campus and more invested in the program.

The Dome sucked, period, for Tulane sports. Terrible terrible terrible. Having the games played Uptown in the new stadium is going to be the best thing to happen to Tulane football since Tommy Bowden.
I understand Ed's concerns but don't you think that maybe, just maybe, someone thought about this before and decided that the number of day games was small enough to justify it?

probably
w/the TV deal AAC teams are going to be playing a lot of Thursday/Friday night games as well as the early games on ESPNU/2/News.

The Dome was just fine in 1998. Poor leadership and ten straight losing seasons in cusa made it a terrible venue.
Posted on 8/8/14 at 10:05 am to Dr Rosenrosen
That's true about the dome in 98.
Ed's right about the side of the field, but he's way overreacting.
Tulane should still be able to get the Mississippis and the southern and atlantic privates in on home and homes ooc. That part will be fine.

Agreed. We probably won't get the Texas or LSU's of the world, but we can't really compete with those anyway. The MS States, GA Tech's, etc. will still come.
And 1998 in on on-campus stadium would have been even more incredible. But in any event, both NOLA and college athletics have changed a lot since 1998. No longer a valid comparison.

Ole miss and miss state are not playing in a 23k seat stadium. And if tulane ever gets hot again, yulman will be too small.
Posted on 8/8/14 at 11:34 am to rt3
Not like they were going to win all of their games anyway..

I worked with Ed for a couple of years... When he gets fired up about a topic, he's usually right

That would have been so awesome. That's when I was living uptown.

Miss. State is playing at South Alabama in Ladd Stadium this year. Yulman is a palace compared to that dump.
Ole Miss played at Wyoming.
Vandy is playing at Western Kentucky.
NC State is playing at Marshall and at Old Dominion.
Yulman will be just fine for "P5" games.
