Big Green Egg Purchase?

I'm just about to pull the trigger. Been grilling on a Weber charcoal. Want to make the jump to the Egg. Is it really worth the price? I grill about once a week.

I have it and love it. Owned it for about a year and grill twice a week bc it's so easy and the food tastes so good. Highly recommend.

I've had mine for ten years about and I use it three or four times a week especially this time of year and I love it. I'm sure some of the others are good as well. I burned my gasket off a few years ago and just keep on cooking like I always have. You will enjoy it.
Now having said that I have a Viking gas I use too but I have a 20 year old Weber Kettle that gets used quite a bit as well and I'll never get rid of it. Something about those Webers just work very well.

I really like the idea of slow cooking a brisket or butt and cooking a steak at 600.

Yea, the Weber kettle is what I have now and really like it. But I've used it so much it's falling apart.

I'd go with the Kamado Joe. Don't be a sheep.

Check out the Primo Oval XL!

Yup, worth it as long as you intend to use it for everything it's capable of doing.
If you just grilling chicken breasts once a week, nah

Primo, egg, kamado joe, grill dome, etc... Pick your size, shape, color, price, where it's made. They all cook about the same and they all cook better than any grill you have ever cooked on.

The new Kamado Joe they jus came out with is the best I have seen. Dual temp zoned and split heat deflector included as well as adjustable grate and removable ash holder.

The new features of the kamado joe look nice. Makes it with considering. I still like the oval shape of the primo for more cooking surface. The removable ash holder on the kamado joe looks interesting.

+1 on the Kamado Joe. Same principle as the BGE, but better quality IMO. Primo is nice as well, but a bit more expensive

Buy it and don't look back. It will change your thoughts on what bbq should taste like.

Have had one for a couple of years and enjoy it, use it once a month or so. There is a learning curve to getting your fire where you want it that can be frustrating at first, also it's a big effort to cook steaks on there, I've done it a couple of times and have since gone back to my grill method.
Can't beat the slow cooked BBQ and pizzas on the egg though

BGE easy peasy. Last night stuck electric starter in lump that's been in there the last 7 grillings. 10 minutes later I'm at 450 degrees. Popped steaks on 3 minutes a side. Nice char/sear and juicy inside. Two things I don't like grating isn't adjustable from coals (I improvised to get closer to coals) and hard to add wood during a long smoke

Which brand of electric starter do you have?

This is one thing the KJ has now with the grate adjusting. You can even put half the grate up and the other half down closer to coals. You can even use half the grill indirect and the other half direct.

Just use a blowtorch. It gets the coals lit pretty quick and has other uses besides just lighting coals.

I don't like using bottled gas. I own a blowtorch; hell, I own an oxy/acetylene rig. But I'd like a more environmentally friendly lighting alternative. Small gas bottles aren't refillable, and there is no curbside recycling in my parish. So I try to go with reuseable alternatives whenever possible.

If I were doing it again I'd get a knock off.
I want a PK Grill too.
