I can't even contemplate how people who make $50k (which was me 10 years ago) do it.
Easy we are smart with our money and don't blow it on useless things. Me and my wife combined don't make much because she's in the process of finishing her Masters and works at the school so they pay for her tuition, but we have enough to eat go on dates and still take weekend getaways from time to time. We are both just very responsible with our money and make sure we save for things that matter to us.
ETA: Both cars are paid off though so that helps.

i did not realize those houses were that much in that neighboorhood

No doubt. $300k won't even get me a decent studio apartment.

Exactly 2300 sqft. You can go across the river, get a 3200 sqft home with a yard for 300K.

How much space do you need? And why the frick would you want to live across the river?

That's not true for everyone. You've got to manage your money. Wife and I make about 100k. We have a mortgage (from not selling house before moving), rent, 4yr. old w/ $700/month schooling, went to Disney last year, Tennessee & SC the year before, planning trip to Boston this year, and my wife just got her 2nd new car in 2 years.
While still being able to move money to savings each month.

Mine was 100k by 30. But I've reached that a little early. Now I'm shooting for 125k-150k by 30. I figure after that, I won't be able to make the huge career jumps due to a family. I'd still expect some significant pay increase, but not as quickly.

Make 6 figures. It's not that big a deal, trust me.

I just started a new job a month ago and my goal is to hit $100k working less than 45 hours a week. First real job out of college

Not really. You won't be living the big life, but you will have plenty of money to live (realistically) comfortably while still putting in for your retirement, etc.
When I say "cutting it close", I'm thinking about in the event that something happens. Then again, I think that your mortgage estimate is high by a few hundred dollars. At the number I came up with (~$800/month) it's quite doable. So you're right.

I must have missed the part of your argument that has anything to do with this statement
