In your scenario you'd be cutting it very close.

Not really. You won't be living the big life, but you will have plenty of money to live (realistically) comfortably while still putting in for your retirement, etc.

Well yea, in that case $50k is a shite load of money. That'd be like having a $50k salary while in college

Well I pretty much did though quite a bit more than 50.. That's why my house is paid for.. While in College I sold Real Estate.. flipped some houses... Market went south around the time I graduated.. Got into something different.. made less, but steady income.. only normal monthly bills to pay..

I always look at my sister and BIL when these threads come up

My BIL makes about $60k or maybe even less, my sister doesn't work, and they have 3 kids under 4.

They live in a reasonable home ($160k), drive used vehicles, rarely dine out, don't take vacations, etc

But they live quite a comfortable life. I'm sure things get tight, but they make it work and are a happy household.

Not cookie cutter within the city limits. You're out your mind, and I'm pretty sure you know it.

My fiance and I make around 100k combined. However we are both 26 and have zero debt.

We live in Nashville which has same COL as New Orleans or Baton Rouge.

Is that a good start in the opinions of OTers?

I make 3/5ths of that combined salary of you catch my drift...

I think thats a great start to our lives, plus she's a nurse so she'll always be able to find work.

You really live in ball?

In my 25 years of life I have decided that I would literally commit suicide before living two places. Ball and Morse.

I am sorry, Ace.

my gf and i (we live together in a rental house) make a combined income of roughly 130 and live quite comfortably for now. We are quickly chipping away at our debt (no house note yet) and hope to be debt free by the time we are 5 years out of school. I paid off almost 15k in debt last year.
