Same here. Maybe some people on here are strictly talking about their area and therein lies the problem. My house is worth around 235k and by no means is it a cookie cutter or shack. But there are different factors in all types of different locales. To make a blanket statement that you have to have a 300k house or it's shite/cookie cutter is just plain wrong.
Same thing applies to salary. 100k is more than enough for some and conversely not even close to enough for some depending on situation.

Nice try though
I wasn't trying anything. If you lived as comfortable as you say, you wouldn't need to move in with your parents. Simple as that.

Or we didn't feel like signing a lease while we knew we were looking for a house in NOLA after moving from BR. Another A for effort on trying jerk off.

10-15 yrs ago making it to six figures was the goal. Now in 2014 what is the new standard?
According to the inflation calculator that I just looked at it's $135,000.

to be fair, a $100k salary for a 25 year old engineer in O&G is not an absurd statement and is actually quite common

Why are you upset that someone has a family safety net?

It's also an incredibly small percent of the workforce too.

Plus 1. I'm not sure I even want the next position. And that's with 4 kids and a stay-at-home wife.
Life is what you make of it.

We always do.
eta: You could raise the figure in the OP to $250K and you'd still have people lining up in here saying how they hit $250K @ 22yrs old.

I have no idea what fricking planet yall live in.
In 2000, I made around $85k and I lived quite well. I make a lot more now, but live off less. I live better than I did on the 85k. Its about two things
a) not having debt - debt service kills you
b) prioritize your spending - spend money where you like to, not on everything
My guess is if you were to look at inflation, it would probably be about $115-120k, if that. Tech costs have plummeted, but housing is up and so is food.

family combined is like 110k. I feel like we dont struggle for money but I also feel like I dont have near the savings I should. Not sure how much my life would change if I boosted that up another 30k but there are also no children in the picture yet.

Problem is that salaries and wages have not kept up with inflation.
