Actual Mangalitsa pigs are NOT pig/sheep crosses. They're just curly-coated pigs--it's a Hungarian heritage breed. NO sheep DNA involved, either naturally or artificially.
ETA: I seem to recall a few diff restos around NOLA offering Mangalitsa on occasion. For some reason, a pork belly dish at Luke comes to mind.....

I was wondering about that. Pigs and sheep don't seem that similar, and cross breeds are usually sterile anyway. The story really wasn't that clear on this point.

I believe Donald Link breeds them.

They are really good, a different type of fat and lots of it.
I think Link was raising some of them at Bill Ryal's place but it was too hot for that specific breed there. Those pigs originate from norhtern and eastern europe, so the Gulf Coast is not their ideal climate. I think they moved them up to northern Alabama. Now they raise some other heritage breed at Ryals'. Most mangalitsa are cross bred with a durock or other warmer weather breed.

I figured our climate would be an issue. The breeders I saw on the net were all in Missouri, Northern Cali, and similar areas.

Depending on the level of alcohol consumed, with gleeful abandon!
IMO, the next morning would kin'da difficult for the sheep. The pig, however, could not care less.

Only stories, from people who worked around him. Or heard them enough times and from enough people to believe them as the truth.
I'm sure you have read this one
Scooba has a nice field for a JC, and a really good football program. In a two week stretch this season helicopters from both MSU and UA landed on the end of their field for Mullen and Saban to catch practice and "talk" to potential recruits.
Coach Sullivan was colorful and tough. To impress Bear Bryant back in those days was doing something. My opinion is that if a helicopter landed on his field when he was there, he would have told them to get the hell off his grass.
