I'm guaranteed to win. I'm the best at doing that.

It's a shame, I have a sour that I think is excellent however I used the dregs of a JK bottle. So it really isnt reproduce-able

They could scale that up... At 1 bottle per 5 gallons, they would only take dregs from like 186 JK bottles for a 30 BBL batch??

So i was thinking yesterday, about brewing some beer for the wife. She loves my blackberry wheat, and most other fruit beers. So, i started to think, instead of 5 gallons of blackberry, why not separate that into multiple batches.

Brew a 5 gallon wheat ale. Once finished fermenting, secondary into either 5 - 1 gallon secondary fermenters or 2 - 2.5 gallons fermenters.

The fruit i'm thinking of using are:

Blackberry, Strawberry, Apricot, Satsuma (if available at the time), and maybe Kiwi.

Or maybe just save 1 gallon as strictly a wheat only brew.

Anyone else split batches?

I have two 3 gallon better bottles that I've used to split batches before.

Splitting 4 or 5 ways is more work than I'd want to put in for a gallon of beer, but I've been tempted to pick up the one gallon glass carboy's with the ported lids from LAHombrew and use those for a mead.

Heck, if it makes the wife happy I say go for it.

I'm calling an audible on two beers currently aging.

The first is a sour saison that was brewed with sacch, lacto, and brett. It is currently so-so. My girlfriend has recently fallen in love with krieks, so I'm going to add in a bunch of cherries.

The second is a biere de garde fermented with wlp670 and some Crooked stave brett. It's just kind of meh too. I ordered some cabernet sauvignon concentrate to add to it, and I think I'm going to add some roselare blend in there when I add the wine concentrate.

My no-boil experiment is going to be a dumper. It's not losing the hot garbage smell or taste.

Received my pr-order hops from LabelPeelers today...

Need to get my beer for Iron Brewer out of the way and start brewing some IPAs.

Is that the probiotic one? If not, how's it doing?

This is not the probiotic one. The probiotic starter got really sour after a week, but it smelled exactly like yogurt, so I decided not to go with it.

So, I've fallen down the rabbit hole of homebrewing. I got a kit for Christmas and bottled my first batch (a pale ale {all grain}) yesterday.

Any recommendations for a second batch? I may try an extract this time. I plan to go to Brewstock this weekend to get ingredients. I am also looking into upgrading from my 1 gallon carboy to a bucket.

I'll certainly be trying BugAC's blackberry wheat sometime this spring.

We would have started by now but the christmas present for my bro arrived with a broken glass carboy. I dont even need a carboy but I am looking to get a new kit as Amazon refunded me last week. Can a brotha get a link to a good one either with just a bucket or at least a plastic carboy/better bottle?

Good luck. I have done well with hoppy Ambers so that is my suggestion.

I had an odd experience over the weekend. I brewed an amber last week and had some extra wort that I put into a sanitized growler. Apparently it wasnt as sanitized as anticipated as mold started to grow on top. I left it as I wasnt terribly concerned and wasnt in a position to clean it out. I checked on it again yesterday (so 3 days after mold) and something had started fermenting it out blowing the lid off the growler. I am going to see what happens, and see if the ph drops low enough where I feel comfortable tasting it. Anyone know what ph level I should be looking for?

Northern Brewer 'Essentials Kit': 2 buckets = $90

or

Austin Homebrew 'Brew on a Budget": 1 bucket, 1 plastic carboy = $100

I'd probably get the buckets.. I have a lot of plastic carboys I don't use, but I still find all sorts of uses for good buckets.

If you're in Houston, you guys have a couple decent homebrew stores. It would probably save you some time and money to check them out.

the one nearest to me wants like $135. My bro found one near the woodlands and their cheapest one was a little over $100. Thanks for the links.

Ouch! That's really expensive for a plastic starter kit.

Our local homebrew store, LA Homebrew, carries the starter kit below from BSG for $60 which is pretty nice.
