You share a lot of your story on TD. I love to read when you share your past. You have an amazing story. I really think you should write a book and share this with others. Just my two cents.

Wow, I don't know what to say. Thanks. I guess it is a pretty interesting story, this crazy life I've lived. It's been a wild, often times very hard ride for sure. But I'm sure there are others who've gone through and done as much or more than I have.

If you leave behind kids, you're a POS. I stand behind that.

mine is fairly ignorant as well. i caught up on the gist of it over the last couple of pages but will probably wait until tonight to read the whole thing.

but dealing with all that, i don't know that there is one among us wouldn't share the same attitude. but it looks like the OT helped pull the guy through, which he should take great pride in. i enjoy being an a-hole on the internet as much as the rest of you, but this is one of those situations where it isn't appropriate.

I had a family member popped himself in front of his Dad and Brother.

Nobody saw it coming. Would of though he would of been the last person on earth to do that.

I had a friend in middle school that was on one of the basketball teams we played against. he and his mom pulled into their driveway one night and his dad was banging his head as hard as he could against the brick wall until he collapsed and died right in front of them

there's no rhyme or reason to it. everyone can force a smile in public. it's what they battle in private that generally pushes them over the edge

Because you don't know what you're talking about. Do you think that a person who commits suicide is thinking rationally, free from delusions and distorted thinking, etc? It's is entirely possible for a parent to kill themselves thinking that by doing so they're removing the burden they believe they place on their children. Depression can seriously alter your ability to accurately perceive reality, relationships, your ability to accurately evaluate your own self-worth or importance to loved ones, etc. If you do any reading on the subject you'll learn just how common it is for a person to kill themselves fully convinced that taking their own life is in the best interest of their loved ones.

ETA: People need to understand just how distorted the thinking of a person who is truly suicidal can become. You can't apply standard methods of judgment when they're not capable of thinking rationally while in that state.

If you're trying to find logic in any case involving mental illness, you should give that up now.

I know that I just mean the method chosen to kill himself. I can see the logic of a person not wanting to face whatever is coming in the future of his/her life and sitting in the garage with the car running, it's painless. Or blowing their brains out, it's quick and painless (in theory) but to slam your head up against a wall is a whole other level of messed up

re: Do you know someone who has really thought about suicide?

quote:

Lost my ten year old son to rare brain cancer. It was a 10 month process and he went through hell. Spent two years drinking the pain away, went through a divorce. Lost my uncle to a drunk driver than my 9 year old niece died of cancer...all that happened in one year. He was my first born

This is really unfair (like life is ever really fair), and thigs I would never wish on anyone. I absolutely don't believe that things happen for a reason, BUT I do believe that God can use all things for His purpose/ultimate good. The stuff I have been through (nothing compared to your stuff) has equipped me to help others who are, or have gone through, similar things. I won't pretend to know what lies ahead for you, but maybe you could one day use your experiences to help others. That my friend would be a worthy calling.

I'd never do it but damned if I haven't wanted to a bajillion times. Just can't put my family through that. My friends that have shot themselves; their families are just wrecks now.

For years I've actively avoided family functions and not taken family pictures, no memories please.
